We have to be wary about selling any important first team player due to our complete and utter ineptitude at reinvesting money sensibly.
Our recruitment somehow managed to get worse since Thelwell and Lampard took over. That's almost impossible
Of course this is possible, but its also unavoidable. And to the extent that there are variables to why we are in this mess, yes its from an exodus of more seasoned talents but also from selling too late in a players market cycle for adequate reinvestment.
I don't think Thelwell has been good, but if just from the price point for a lot of the younger targets, its at least somewhat aware that the squad needs value propositions with possible profitable sell on potential. If just from budget alone. Brands in my view never got to really do his job or highlight his strengths, but his tenure had almost no signs of that same calculation. Of course we were better but the consequences of such short sidedness are baring fruit now.
All that aside we have to have a sound sell on strategy. I too am wary of a lot of january business based on Lampard's wishes as I don't think he's at Everton next year or the end of the season. If the club was sensible Thelwell is embolden regardless. However unconvincing, he is the DoF and one in theory to avoid signings reliant on a single manager's wishes or solely immediate impact. Regardless if I too have doubts in the board and DoF we can't push off selling our best players past their peak market. As is evident now id argue it creates problems and a lack of resources down the line.
