That was/is his biggest strength undoubtedly. His ability to identify and sign quality players on low fees was what kept us in higher league positions than our lack of financial support from the board warranted.

Whilst this board are still in place, the lack of finance is always going to be a problem, so the only way we can keep in and around the European spots will be down to whether the current manager is just a savy in the transfer market.

Fascinating business model--scout young, talented players that you can acquire are reasonable fees. Sell them later to clubs after they've developed into budding stars, for a reasonable profit. Finance the club by selling players that don't fit into the future of the squad. Are there any clubs in England that do this on a regular basis?

You could argue Southampton, but they bring a fair amount of talent through their academy.
