It’s all speculation but I would hazard a guess that when he arrived, we had to buy out his contract, which effectively means we handover a load of dough that ultimately gets handed over to James to leave Madrid.
That may or may not be spread over 2y of his contract with us.
Football Leaks published his salary at Madrid as £129k / week and he had 12 month remaining iirc, so the buy out might have been around £6.7m
Let’s say he’s on £140k/w here, or £14.5m over the 2 years…..
£6.7m + £14.5m = £21.2m contract over 104 weeks = £203k/w.
It we were to trigger the 3rd year that looks more like £6.7m + £22m = £28.7m over 156 weeks or £183k/w exc any loyalty bonuses.
So regardless of what his weekly pay packet says, but hook or by crook I suspect we owe him at least £21.2m over 104 weeks, of which he may have had £6.7 as a signing on fee already (or we may be paying that over the duration of the contract, but either way he’s getting it)
Not suggesting this is a fact but just my suspicion.

We got a year out of a household name, who doesn’t appear to have had 100% heart. He gave us some decent memories, and there won’t be any animosity on my front, just move him now and get a replacement, that Días could be perfect.

His choice at that point will be either playing for Porto for the season or sitting on twitch in the Titanic for 12 months. He should be packing his bags as we speak if he's got any sense

There is absolutely no doubt that the lad is a quality footballer. If he was committed to Everton and fit to play 30 games a season then he would be staying. It would appear that he doesn’t want to stay or play. He is a problem, if his wages are as high as they say then he is a £200,000 per week problem, we could get two very good players in for that money and possibly three.
We have been plagued with bad apples recently, we had a team full of players who didn’t want to earn their keep. I know it is only three games in but it looks like most of the players have bought into whatever it is Benitez is trying to do, this is no time to have malcontents undermining any progress we are making.
If Hamez and Kean don’t want to be a Everton get rid and use the money to bring in what we need. Using the money might present problems, we don’t seem to have mastered that one as yet.
Still looking forward to today’s game, hope to see Godfrey striding out of defence at pace, Gray flying forward at pace and Gbamin powering forward, and I hope to see Keane on the bench.
