So Wigan's relegation wasn't the fault of the keeper, the CB, their main central midfield player, striker & manager - this is a mystery worthy of Columbo

New managers generally go for players they are comfortable with and like.

When Kendall went to Man City in 1989, he drafted in Peter Reid, Adrian Heath and Alan Harper.
When Kendall came back to us in 1990, he brought in Andy Hinchcliffe and Alan Harper back from City.
When Kendall came back to us in 1997, he brought in Mitch Ward and Carl Tiler from his most recent previous club Sheff Utd.

It really is no surprise Martinez is going back to Wigan for players. They fit into his system better, they know his methods and what he wants them to do, and they can influence the dressing room.

Whether he is any good or not remains to be seen. In his favour is the fact he is 22 years old, so at least he has re-sale value.

Robles was their 3rd choice keeper, he only made 7 starts, 3 of which were clean sheet and 1 was in the FA Cup Final.
Alcaraz was crocked most of the season.
Kone scored 13 goals, as opposed to Jelavic's 7.

McCarthy - you possibly have a point.

Robles and Alcaraz will hardly play a game or two for us all season, bar maybe the cups in Robles case.
