Jags Injured

Well, you wouldn't be saying that if Heitinga picked up an injury when playing for Holland last night. Or Distin picks up an injury in training.

In an ideal world, you should have two players battling for each position. No one would argue with that. As it happens, centre half has two positions.

Just one injury to Heitinga or Distin in the build up, or during the Derby - and we have no centre half available to come in.

Lets say Jagielka picked up big injury - as has happened before - we'd have no cover. Criminal when you consider we let Yobo out on loan.

Fortunately, it's unlikely Jagielka will be out for six weeks. But the point remains - as it always has since Yobo left, we're vulnerable at centre half.

To be honest Danny, you can't be sure he's actually picked up an injury.

A "tight hamstring" is just a prewarning of possibly picking up an injury. With treatment though there's no doubt he'll be fit. Especially if the scan indicated no tear present.

Everton probably requested he was released, and the England medical team probably advised he wouldn't have been 100% fit this weekend. So it would have been mutually agreed for him to come back and it wasn't worth him playing today!

That article - just like snidey journos do gives out mixed messages.

It was like the one last week that claimed Cahill had a knee injury and would miss 6 weeks... when you read actually in the story the 6 weeks was due not to his knee but in January and the Asia Cup !!!

Yes, but that's the risk you take. Suppose we still had Yobo, and then Heitinga and Distin picked up injuries. We'd still be screwed.

Is it? Seems like a pointless risk to me. Why take it? Many of us said at the time when Yobo went that it could needlessly backfire if injuries happen.

It's just not likely to happen. There's no point having two extra centre halves when the likely hood is that they'll be sitting on the bench for all but 2 or three games a season.

Two injuries aren't likely to happen? - How many strikers did we have out injured last year?... Remember our defence at Benfica? Remember the European games where we had to stick Hibbert centre half?

Throw in potential suspensions to the mixer as well. We're currently at the mercy of desperately hoping two players don't pick up an injury. Why needlessly add that stress when we could have an International Captain and former player of the year coming in?

Danny another thing. You're driving yourself mentally furious, but how do you know that Yobo's loan couldn't be subject to recall in the event of injuries?

Just a thought lad.

Damnn, you're good.

Ok, it's just my opinion. You wont change it.

And, being honest, I'd rather have Hibbert at Centre Back than Yobo. There, I said it.

Well, another thought was that he wasn't registered. (y)

Ahh.. well he could be recalled in January. which is what 3 months off?

There's still no need to be

As I think unless the scan showed a tear which that newspaper has not confirmed (or any newspaper!) That 6 weeks figure is COMPLETE BOLLOCKS.

Tight Hamstring's not the same as a torn hamstring.

Ain't easy though to convince two CBs of Yobo/Distin/Heitinga/Jagielka's quality to be benchwarmers. We're pushing it with one, hence the Heitinga rumours.

Get that massour who sorted Robben out for the world cup to sort him out. He should've been out for about a month and came back in a week or so.

And as for cover - Pip, Hibbert, Duffy would be in Moyes' mind to play at centre half.

I'm disappointed. We could have turned this thread into a "WE'RE DOOMED" - only to hear a few days later that Jagielka is fit.

As usual our manager harps on about our players getting selected for international duty only for them to get injured.
I ******* hate international weekends.
