we cared. moyes cared. but he ****ed it up. as usual. as he always will. a scrappy 1-0 win against southampton aint gonna change this.
we got beat by a Leeds team, and deservedly so that was missing about six players , that not good enough for me under any circumstances , and the worrying thing is it isn't the first time, Bedford ect, he just dosnt learn

The defeat highlighted a massive lack of depth, if I'm honest the loss is a good thing for our season as we clearly can't compete on many levels with our current squad.
Lets hope our first choice eleven stays fit so we can maintain our league form and look to strengthen in January.

Disappointed yes, but overly bothered, no.

tim cahill said quite a few years ago when everton lost to fiorentina that it was ace going far in the cups/competitions because it meant you almost never had to practice, you just played footy.

Never like losing but for one reason or the other the league cup just isn't for us. We can dust off that defeat and move on and aim for top 4.

listen its the league cup we laughed when the red ****e celebrated winning it last year none of the top teams play their strongest 11 and if we learned anything tonight its in the league we always have to play our strongest team we cant rotate unless its a player or two just no more plus losing tonight almost think we guarentted 3 pts saturday now against southamton no complacecy and has to be a backlash from poor display tonight

Uh, the only people who have an excuse 'not to care' about the league cup are those teams who are in the Champions League, otherwise it's one of only 2 chances your team will get to win a trophy every year.

Why people continuously f*** off the league cup is beyond me. Then again, i suppose getting the 7th place trophy each year is more important. Or hell, maybe we could qualify for the Europa, the tournament where you play teams from the arse end of nowhere for the slim chance of lifting a trophy and getting some meagre prize money.

If somebody had given me the choice of finishing 8th and winning the League Cup last season or finishing 7th then i would have chosen the first option all day long, it amazes me that anybody else wouldn't.

Not sure why you needed to **** off the Europa League there, I don't think you even wanted to really.

Maybe this result will stop people moaning about us playing Osman and Neville in midfield together. That was where we lost this game...

Moyes plays Fellaini as if he's so great and drops everyone else. Well done you ginger nobend

Moyes gave players who should have been eager to impress, the opportunity to beat a crap Leeds side .

He brought in 2 debutants, 3 first team regulars & Mucha - all of whom should have been good enough to do what was required.

They were ****e & that's not Moyes doing, they let him down, so try pointing the finger at the players for once, they were wank

Meh. I'd like to win anything with Everton, but the League Cup is a lot less strenuous on a squad than the Europa league and the opposition you can face in the first half dozen matches in the Europa can be just as bad or worse anybody you'll play in the COC.

Don't understand people who can say Everton being knocked out of any tournament at this level is a good thing.

Exactly, which is why I don't think you really wanted to make another competition out as not being worth qualifying for.

We had players tonight who needed a game such as Mucha, Junior, Oviedo, Naismith and Gueye. Heitinga and Mirallas are also looking for sharpness too. And it was another opportunity for Coleman and Anichebe to become familiar with their eventual roles. So the team virtually picked itself. It was a risk that we had to take and unfortunately it didn't come off. We would have liked to stay in the competition, obviously, but we've got a relatively small squad and maintaining a challenge on just two fronts might be our best bet this year. I'm sure that the fringe players will see plenty of action during the rest of the campaign, Mucha and probably Junior apart.
