Is this the season when Shane Duffy breaks through?

If Alcaraz can play as slow as he is there is no way Duffy can be slower. And he's absolutely boss at headers which is better than Alcaraz....soooo.....yeah, dump the Paraguayan and keep the Irish lad!

Think the only way we will know if hes ready would be to through him in the deep end against a mid-lower table side and see how he gets on.

I think he will struggle long term to be a part of a Martinez team because he doesn't necessarily have some of the attributes that he looks for in CBs, but that's no shame at all. I've got every expectation that he'll be a very good player, and i hope he does well even if it's not at Everton, he certainly seems to have the right attitude and application.

You mean attributes like winning headers from set pieces and corners because at the moment neither Distan or Jags can do that as proven on Sat! This lad played 4-5 games in an injury crisis a few seasons ago ansd was unfairly dumped by DM he was MOTM in some of those games!

I never understand people saying he will. Which is based on him being our youngster and a run of 3 good games. (Which evidently get better each time the story is told lol)

You'd think clubs (top clubs) would be beating down our door to get him, given his struggles getting near our first team.

He struggled at times last year at Yeovil!

I just feel its gonna be a major struggle for him here. Should go and learn the game elsewhere IMO, then come back and stick 2 fingers up at all us non-believers!!

He was their player of the season.

Would think we're going to keep him now. Lad deserves some sort of chance, he did well on loan last year and Stones needs a new partner long-term.

I'd only sell him now if we're offered a tidy sum for him. £2m-£3m, something like that. Sod another loan off, we need bodies in case of injuries.

I reckon he will break through, it will go something like this:

Those few games he had a while back didn't give me much to get excited about. Granted, it's difficult to judge players on limited viewing but he just looked like your run of the mill British centre half. Contrast that with Stones who looked a class apart.

Not a chance I'd even consider dropping either of the first three centre halves to give Duffy a 'chance'. We can't be affording that to players out of sentiment, I think for the sake of his career the lad needs to move on.

That could be a bit shortsighted though. Lets be fair Alcaraz has been a liability and you can't ignore big Distin's age.
