Is it possible to be a good Referee?

Genuine question.

I can't remember the last time I saw a ref get all the calls right. If every single ref is bad at their job can anyone be good at it?

Is it just that noone can do it in the modern game given how fast the pace is and how much play acting there is?

It's the same beauts criticising the referees as managers. It's the twenty something teds who think they're jarg Gary Nevilles because they got a Sky HD subscription and a promotion on FIFA career.

Tits.

it's impossible for them to get everything right.

when do former football players every give something back to the game and be a referee? you see former cricket players become umpires. I know it requires you to be very fit, but what professional footballer isn't these days?

i think they're all crap, but they're not helped. we watch them every week and think "i could do a better job", but they're doing it in front of 70,000 people etc. as well as having 22 men screaming and shouting all sorts at them. Why in the world are they not protected more? no wonder the standard is so low, who would want to put themselves through that? You see players cheating every 5 mins, even when the ref is right and calls them out on it they still get shouted at.

The game will die without them. Technology will help yes, but they do need to have a certain personality as well. You could have a brilliant ref, but who is also a person who cracks under confrontation and is made to look stupid.

They just should definitely only be spoken to by captains ala rugby, like i said, how will football be played if nobody wants to become an official?

I'd support this. I believe ice hockey is the same way. Always felt that the situations where half a side bumrushes the ref to get a call to be cringeworthy and unfair to the officials.

Referees have been criticised for 100 years, way before Sky, FIFA and Neville.
