Is good football an end in itself?

When we used to grind out matches in that dour, defensive nick one from a set piece Mick Mcarthy style week in week out I wouldn't even watch us on the box let alone shell out to go to GP.

Can't be doing with anti-football, coaches who promote it should be arrested for crimes against sport and whipped in the town centres.

It has been painful at times honestly hasn't it! At least it's a couple hours earlier for you lot mind.

But then I also understand people wanting results. Obviously I'd take Champions League (4th) over any, any style of football, just get us there, but 5th-15th? It's just prizemoney for the loans, and that's another argument entirely.

Yeah I mean in terms of league position there's three types of seasons: good (1st to 5th), bad (16th to 20th) and middling (6th to 15th).

Obviously I'd rather play dire football and finish in that top 5 than good football and not. But as long as the end result of the season is the same, I think good football is in itself pleasing. I'd rather have a middling season playing this kind of football than a middling season playing the kind of football we did this time last year.

If we can keep up how we are currently playing for the entire season, I would be disappointed if we finished 7th or lower. The way we are playing should see us get into Europe next season, but if we don't I'll be gutted.

i think we should start a new chant of "we always score three goals" until we finally score a deserved 4th in a league game - pyar spoilt at the moment compared to the last 20 years haha

@efc_andylewis: EFC squad watching video examples of Barca passing & movement and how they control games when in front. Steve Round's analysis interesting.

We'll have won the Champions league within 2 years

Hopefully moyes has turned the corner in his approach , i will be keeping tabs on his uses of neville and hibbert and what stages of matches they enter or leave the playing field over the coming weeks just to see if its for Real or not b)

loving that. Well played Roundy!

edit: to add,
@efc_andylewis: 'Barca vid was part of weekly team meeting. Was to show how best teams close out games with simple, effective quick passing'

Definitely something I've always thought we could improve on: seeing out high-pressure games late-on and comfortably, by keeping the ball. Newcastle at home springs to mind.

I wish he hadn't said that. Embarrassing.

In fact, he says a bit too much for my liking.

Agree, if a 17-5 finish is to be our lot due to lack of billions well why SHOULD we suffer poor entertainment to add insult to injury.
If the level of good football is high enough and ours is at the moment then we could do better than 5th
