Is good football an end in itself?

Good football is a massive advert for the club. It makes people stand up and notice, it makes teams worry about us for a change.

Last season other teams probably weren't that arsed and could see themselves taking points as we pretty much had no threat, other teams will of took confidence from this.

This season, they'll be need a new pair of undies as they worry about our left side, they worry about Felli, They worry about Kev and they worry about the boss slotter Jelavic.

Not to mention the improvement in morale on our side as well as the players will feel then can beat anyone.

Do you think last season clubs were more worried about playing Swansea or Stoke?

Okay so at a club like Everton any season that doesn't end in either a trophy win or CL qualification is a let down. And we shouldn't let our standards slip so much as to forget that.

But if we finish anywhere between 5th and 17th I'd still be happier than I've been for a while as long as we keep playing the kind of football we are at the moment. I know football is a results business but it's also entertainment and after years of paying loads of money to watch some dire stuff, the joy of the last few games has been amazing and quite rewarding just in itself.

It would be disapointing if we didn't take advantage of this squad and if not win something at least make europe again but if we carry on as we've started 7th this year would be massively more satisfying than 7th last year was.

If we can do better in the derbies, blood some more kids and have a good run in the FA cup again, that would please me more than finishing 6th rather than 7th.

It's a pleasure to go to games, right now.

I agree. I always want good football first and foremost - good intentions. It's why I've so much admiration for Blackpool and Wigan who play great football but languish in and around the bottom of the league (obviously Blackpool were relegated sadly). I'd rather watch them than comfortable mid-table Stoke anyday.

This season without doubt. But we're not just playing more attractive exciting football than then, we're getting results and effectively so.

IMO this style we play now is the best way to get results and always, always will be.

Chelsea can stifle Barca in one or even two games but over the course of 15-20 games they will get tonked a lot more than they will win.

That should be our outlook against 90% of the teams in this league IMO.

I'll go with the good football everyday. Not buying into this 'Look at Wigan down the bottom of the table' argument coz no body can say they'd be better off playing scrappy Stoke type football. Fact is a lot depends on the type/quality of players you have. . I think our good results are a direct consequence of the good football we are playing. When we try to defend against Utd we normally end up losing 1-0. This year we went for it and beat them 1-0. The draw at OT last season was another example of us going for it.
Please keep it up.
This time last year I looked forward to Chico's previews more than the game itself. This time round I look forward to the preview coz I know the game's getting nearer.

If by good football you mean play that's based on skill rather than luck, then yes, it's the essence of the game. That said, it doesn't necessarily translate to possession and a short passing game. Defending is a skill too, as is counter attacking - it might not be as fun to watch, but it's just as hard to do successfully. That's the beauty of football as a sport, having such a large amount of players on a dynamic field of play creates the opportunity for all the different styles that we see. I don't think it's any coincidence that the most successful also tend to be the most aesthetically pleasing for the supporters.

So, that is purely down to the style that Barcelona play and absolutely nothing to do with the level of players that they have at their disposal?

No but they were two of the top four teams in the world last season. It's difficult to find two exactly matched sides. Chelsea have gone out and tried to improve thier style with the players they bought. That confirms that thier previous set-up weren't reckoned to be the best to continue winning.
