2025/26 Idrissa Gana Gueye

I’ll be honest and say I didn’t think he was that bad tonight, feels like he’s become a bit of a scapegoat. Not saying he was great like, but no worse than most.

i just think its frustrating that in his absence iroegbunam, rohl and armstrong all have looked really good but he has played a full 90 in every game on his return, and not played well enough to warrant that

rohl literally hasnt had a minute

Yeah I don’t disagree in a general sense, just seems to be a thing at the moment where everyone’s decided he’s finished and that’s going to be the narrative regardless of how he actually performs. I could definitely see why he stayed on late in the game, he was the only one winning the ball back.

He's old now and should be benched for Armstrong who is the future. We're not getting relegated so we have a golden opportunity to try some things, but I'm not convinced Moyes will do. It reminds me of when we got safe under Allardyce and he had about 7 or 8 games to show he could progress the team. We know what happened with him, hopefully Moyes can show some mettle and get Armstrong and/or Rohl into the midfield alongside Garner and KDH. There's definitely a good potential midfield at the club, not something we can say for a lot of areas.

Crap out of possession - leaves massive gaps.

Crap in possession - can’t pass a ball.

He’s just aimlessly runs around attempting tackles these days and some people think he’s undropable.

Club won’t move forward unless players like him, Keane and Myko are sent packing in the summer.

It’s criminal of Moyes picking him, when we had Tim, Merlin and Harrison who I think at this stage would all add more than him.

The only reason it’s currently a ‘narrative’ is because he literally does look to be on the decline.

We can only pass comment on his performances, which by and large have been really poor.

Hes stopped doing the main things he’s in there to do. Interceptions, tackles, protecting back 4 etc.

He’s chasing shadows & offering very very little.

That’s why it’s a narrative.

I’m a bit sick of the “scapegoat” thing getting thrown around to be honest. By definition there can only be one scapegoat, so people need to work out whether it’s Keane, Tarkowski, Mykolenko, Gana, Barry, Iroegbunam or O’Brien because I’ve seen all of them described as it at some point this season.

Saying a player is playing poorly and shouldn’t be in the team doesn’t make them a scapegoat, that’s not what it means. Since Gana came back into the side every midfield we’ve come up against has had the run of the pitch against us. He’s 36 and should be playing limited minutes at this point, used mainly off the bench to close games out. Flogging him for 90 minutes twice in the space of 4 days is ridiculous.

I see a lot of comments arguing for managers to play da yoof because we are safe. It's a bit like saying the government should raise taxes and build new nuclear power stations- it might have merits, but they run the risk of getting voted out and by the time the power stations are productive, they're a footnote in history. For Moyes, he knows he is judged on results, therefore by and large he will pick the team that he thinks can win the next game

But the team he’s picking isn’t winning games at home and has hardly done so all season?

I'm not saying I agree with his selections, but I firmly believe that he thinks it's the best team to win the game. My point is, he's not going to give minutes to youngsters for the sake of it, because he runs the risk that by the time it pays off, he's out the door

Players like Rohl, Alcaraz and Ireogbunam aren’t academy kids. They have played top flight football before, it’s not some crazy gamble to put them in the team.
