People on here have been writing Gana off since the first time he was here.
In his first spell, it was that he wasn't creative enough and was rubbish at passing, and since he has returned its been that he's too old to keep going.
Truth is, he's still one of the best midfielders in the league at what he does, even at his age. I'd love us to replace him with a younger version, but they're not easy to find. Until then, he's probably going to remain one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Jep, but I have to say James Garner really stepped up the last year in areas where Gana was on the of the best in the league in the last few years. Defensive interceptions, ball winnings etc.
Gana for me isn't as influential as last season to me, but still a very important player to the squad.
I swear I watch a different player to the rest of you.

Those are still glaring weaknesses in his game and he’s now older…
He’s also one of the only midfielders in the league at doing what he does btw, barely any other team in the league let a non-creative midfielder just tear about hunting the ball while leaving huge gaps in the middle of the pitch. He really should not be starting and finishing every single game as he’s been way off it this season.

He has been a cracking player for us, but all players start to fade eventually and this season he has.
That shouldn't change people's opinions on what he's done for us over the years, but if we haven't seen the difference, it's because we don't want to.
When most of them looked goosed today, he looked fresh as a daisy.

In his ideal role and for the size he typically gives up in this league the man's exceptional at his job.
I've been quite critical of Idrissa Gana Gueye since his return from AFCON. But credit where it's due, he put in an excellent performance today.
