Threads auto close if no reply after, I think 90 days.

The idea is relevance.

Forums can suddenly look very dated if there's huge gaps between posts.

It's also to encourage new threads - if there isn't a open Marco Silva thread then make a new one.

Can we get threads reopened? With a few transfers and staff changes the MS Paint thread could be fun.
