Buckers

No idea what’s going on.
Just wondering what everyone thinks, I can’t wait to see these guys but things seem to be coming together for the current team. Can they even get in?

The obvious choices for me would be Davies and Keane. Difficult though as Tommy puts so much effort in and Marco seems to like him as captain. Keane is also finally starting to deliver (ish) and Kurt is only on loan so maybe he should drop to the bench if he is leaving to allow us to develop. Long term partnership. I guess the sensible suggestion would be to keep things as they are until someone’s performances drop off and stick them in then?

Probably over Davies and Keane, but who knows (especially re. Mina given Keane’s surprisingly good form).

I fancy them to improve the team, as most of us do, but as it stands neither of them have kicked a ball in English football after previous poor spells. Maybe they don’t both walk into the side as you say.

Easily Keane and Davies. The only thing would be that as Zouma is not actually our player unless there are signs that he could be here permanently then we would need to try and end the season with Keane and Mina. Although Gomes is in a similar situation to Zouma if he plays well I believe would sign and Barca would allow him to leave for the right price.

Lets not forget davies isn't good enough to be srarting every game for us, he was ok yesterday however the majority of games hes bad.
We could do without a midfielder gifting away possesion all game, slowing the game down when were chasing the game and not getting forward when the oppotunity arises.

Davies is talented, but is still young and only playing because we have nothing else resembling a no. 8. Gomes walks into the team.

I can’t imagine Mina isn’t a significant upgrade over Keane, but understand breaking up a partnership might not be the smartest thing to do.

For now I'd say they don't. But also I think the most likely to play poorly enough to get dropped are Keane and Davies and eventually they will be the ones replaced.

Bizarre there are people on here saying we should drop players from a winning team for 2 that haven’t even kicked a ball for us yet.

Not a fan of changing a winning team and dropping the captain tbh.

Think they will appear from the bench and try and win themselves a starting place from there.

Inclined to agree. I understand the "horses for courses" approach and picking teams for how best to attack/contain an opponent, but nothing beats continuity, and if it ain't broke, no need to tinker. The league cup against Southampton, case in point.

..it’s all about improving the team and I would like to think both Mina and Gomes will improve the team.

CBs are about partnerships. Mina forms a fine partnership with Sanchez at international level and Zouma is a similar type to Sanchez with his athleticism and powers of recovery. I fear a Mina/Keane partnership would leave us immobile and slow in central defence.

I think Gomes could be a key player in Silva’s playing strategy. He’s on record as saying he likes a no6 who dictates the pace of play but we currently don’t have a central midfielder with that quality. Davies passing and possession ability continue to be a concern, I think Gomes will be different gravy.

Stay with a winning team...and bring them on as subs if, say, we're winning comfortably against Palace. See how they cope with the Prem.
It's a good problem to have to be honest, adds competition and gives us options...that's where good management comes in

I think it will be easier for Gomes than it will for Mina. It’s pretty standard for midfielders to come off after the 60 minute mark, which is enough time for their replacement to have an impact and make a shout for their place in the team. Bernard did that in his few sub appearances and has pushed his way in; I’d expect a similar route for Gomes. It’s harder for centre backs because they rarely get replaced, even if they are having a stinker, it’s more likely a 3rd CB is brought on to sure up the defence when sitting on a lead. Mina will either need an injury or suspension for Keane or Zouma or be outstanding in training to force his way in.
