Best chips ever created were the soggy fried in dripping chips of lodge road chippy in Southampton back in the 80s.

I think the combination if market forces and the increase in many vocal vegetarians delighted with their new found uniqueness put paid to that gastronomic delight.

You can stick the deep-fried slices of bone-dry MDF that pass as french fries up your fundament as far as I'm concerned, and burn to the ground any establishment that calls them chips.
