Interesting article on the main Everton site, about Neville Southall's recent visit to Finch Farm. Southall got in touch with Martinez and asked if he could bring some young goalies with him to do some training:

Says in the article that it has been 40 years since the last homegrown goalkeeper to come through the ranks and make the first team with us - Andy Rankin.

Can't think of many Scouse goalkeepers to make it at top flight level with others teams either.

Tony Warner was the last scouse goalkeeper I can remember playing in the prem, he played most of his career in lower leagues but I think he played half a dozen games for Fulham in the top flight.

Goalie is always the problem when you try to name a scouse 11. It's a weird one, there was never a shortage of decent goalies for the school teams.
your correct there seen some really good ones over the years, in schools and kids footy .but unless there tall and mouthy they just seem to get overlooked, or let go after a few months of being at both merseyside clubs,
Dont have a clue what there looking for but its not working at local level.

....yep, played a fair bit for Celtic as I recall. Even looking back both local clubs have a history of transferring keepers in. Not even sure if Tranmere have had many local lads, a keeper called Frankie Lane was there for a bit but not sure if he was a scouser. It's an interesting talking point.

Wasn't he the goalie that Ozzie put two past the week before the 2009 Cup Final?

David Martin at MK Dons perhaps, son of Alvin Martin and I think he was on Liverpool's books as a youngster and then released after some loan spells.
