Our home form?
There is something else.
Anxiety. It's in the stands, it's in the players, it's in the play. Even a goal up we're all waiting for the mistake. And it's almost like we will it into being.
Getting rolled over repeatedly has destroyed what little confidence we have at home. Even when we've won it's been nip and tuck.
But last night showed us something more. We all sighed with relief we scored the penalty, got into HT and set up for the SH. But we didn't come out playing, then lost our minds and gave a man away. This moment here. We were up against it. Unlikely now to get back into the game. When the expectation dried up we started playing football. We started moving the ball around and looking for space and a cross.
Could this be the away form belief we see? Now we are officially the underdogs we can relax and play our game.
It's all mentality, forged by experience. They can only play when they're up against it. When that aspect isn't there they freeze, and look round for inspiration.
Underdogs: "We'll show you!"
Favourites: "We don't have a clue!"
is sitting in silence being negative?New ground, negative fan base, hardly a shock we're struggling at home yet thrive in away games
That’s bollocks. The fans kept us up over the recent bad years.New ground, negative fan base, hardly a shock we're struggling at home yet thrive in away games
Back in the 80s it wasn't that rare for Goodison to have less than 20,000 and a few times under 15,000. In 1980 there was as few as 12,863 at Goodison to watch us draw with Birmingham City. Can you imagine Bramley Moor with 20,000. This idea that the stadium and or the fans is to blame is just not true. Take a look at the gates when Kendall had us finishing 7th. Beating Watford in front of 13,571 and that season we won the Cup.New ground, negative fan base, hardly a shock we're struggling at home yet thrive in away games
So you are blaming the fans, the fans are entitled to be peeved off at the utter crap we are being served at home.New ground, negative fan base, hardly a shock we're struggling at home yet thrive in away games
I agree. I was in line with that and was sure it was a penalty. No leadership anywhere on the park especially after they equalized. The anxiety feels palpable in there. Very nervy first 45 on the pitch and in the stands, the goal that more like relief than joy
We came out the traps firing in the second half, which we don’t usually do, felt like the second to seal it was coming
Once Barry missed you could sense around the ground we were going to regret that, suddenly rayan gets in behind myko twice (could have had a pen) and Moyes is bringing on Armstrong ready to defend the lead instead of kill the game
Once the equaliser came there felt a real resignation to what was to come. Shoulders down on the pitch and no rallying cries off it
I’m just surprised it didn’t end up 4-1
Limited tactics & coaching of attacking play and a reluctance to try dominate teams has more to do with itNew ground, negative fan base, hardly a shock we're struggling at home yet thrive in away games
It could be the pressure of Peter Reid sitting watching a bit like ferguson at old TraffordCould our poor home form be a result of us changing to blue socks instead of white socks? Maybe we should go back to white socks at home and blue away
