Our home form?

Could our poor home form be a result of us changing to blue socks instead of white socks? Maybe we should go back to white socks at home and blue away

There is something else.

Anxiety. It's in the stands, it's in the players, it's in the play. Even a goal up we're all waiting for the mistake. And it's almost like we will it into being.

Getting rolled over repeatedly has destroyed what little confidence we have at home. Even when we've won it's been nip and tuck.

But last night showed us something more. We all sighed with relief we scored the penalty, got into HT and set up for the SH. But we didn't come out playing, then lost our minds and gave a man away. This moment here. We were up against it. Unlikely now to get back into the game. When the expectation dried up we started playing football. We started moving the ball around and looking for space and a cross.
Could this be the away form belief we see? Now we are officially the underdogs we can relax and play our game.

It's all mentality, forged by experience. They can only play when they're up against it. When that aspect isn't there they freeze, and look round for inspiration.

Underdogs: "We'll show you!"
Favourites: "We don't have a clue!"

The anxiety feels palpable in there. Very nervy first 45 on the pitch and in the stands, the goal that more like relief than joy

We came out the traps firing in the second half, which we don’t usually do, felt like the second to seal it was coming

Once Barry missed you could sense around the ground we were going to regret that, suddenly rayan gets in behind myko twice (could have had a pen) and Moyes is bringing on Armstrong ready to defend the lead instead of kill the game

Once the equaliser came there felt a real resignation to what was to come. Shoulders down on the pitch and no rallying cries off it

I’m just surprised it didn’t end up 4-1

Not convinced this is a stadium issue, clearly nothing wrong with the physical building. We’ve had this problem for years and I think it’s a combination of complex issues.

Fixture dates:
We seem to have had plenty of weird timings, the fan base don’t like them and nobody is keen to get up for a Tuesday evening game.

Fan expectation:
For the last 4 years this has been about relegation, but now we’re back to demanding a league winning team. The players aren’t good enough, we don’t have the finances and we get on the teams back when we lose. Everton are a community club and I imagine it’s an intense experience playing for us. I’m not a professional footballer (obviously), but I have no idea what it must be like pottering about with folks constantly asking about the blues. Maybe it’s stressful? Maybe it’s too much

New ground, negative fan base, hardly a shock we're struggling at home yet thrive in away games
That’s bollocks. The fans kept us up over the recent bad years.

The problem is that at home we are expected to take the game to the opposition and we don’t (yet) have the team to do it consistently. Away from home we can soak it up and hit teams on the counter. On this basis, I fully expect us to beat United as they will come out and attack therefore playing to our strength.

Back in the 80s it wasn't that rare for Goodison to have less than 20,000 and a few times under 15,000. In 1980 there was as few as 12,863 at Goodison to watch us draw with Birmingham City. Can you imagine Bramley Moor with 20,000. This idea that the stadium and or the fans is to blame is just not true. Take a look at the gates when Kendall had us finishing 7th. Beating Watford in front of 13,571 and that season we won the Cup.

I think its obvious why we are so poor at home as to our away form, In away games we start and finish on the back foot, defend most of the time with everybody behind the ball and hope for a breakaway, which often does happen and we score a goal, at home we try to attack more often but are unable to do so, because of lack of creative players.

I agree. I was in line with that and was sure it was a penalty. No leadership anywhere on the park especially after they equalized.
