ЭВЭРТОН
Player Valuation: £500k
With Everton closing in on the capture of highly rated Swedish youngster Rasmus Elm, after narrowly missing out on the signing of English younster Kyle Naughton, Harry Redknapp has vowed to do all he can to sign whichever players Everton show an interest in.
Not really, of course, although it seems apparent that managers of other clubs are in such envy of David Moyes track record in the transfer market, they monitor his movements waiting for the perfect time to gazump him.
Despite making a few promising yet very low profile signings in Peterlin, Mustafi and Garbutt, anyone we target with any real potential instantly becomes 'one of the hottest prospects in world football'. Their value then doubles or triples as clubs with billionaire backing set about bidding vast sums of money for youth with potential. It is something that may well end up costing us dear.
This leaves us in the same position we found ourselves in last year, where we ended up paying £15million on transfer deadline day for someone who lets face it, is not the greatest footballer in the world. We have had unparallelled success in taking championship talent and turning them into premiership stars. Also, despite the fact I hate the guys face, I must admit that £2m for a bundesliga flop was good business.
Two solutions that spring to mind to our lacking punch in the transfer market are that we could:
A) Fly into any deals involving young talent with 15-20% higher offers for players than their perceived value, stating clearly that the offer must be accepted immediately or Everton close their interest.
B) Look around the top leagues at those clubs with large squads and talented players, especially those gathering dust on the bench after an unhappy first season or 18 months. Particularly Spurs & Man City, but also Fiorentina, Milan, Atletico & Valencia.
