2025/26 Harrison Armstrong

DM did a great job last season to keep us up easily - time will tell if he is the Manager to take us to the next level - he had more funds than Dyche ever had - I am a little sceptic over his signings Grealish a very good loan deal - Barry a total enigma? - no full backs a no 1 priority last June - a young midfielder with a bad injury record - he may come good - no sale of Dwight McNeill - a record signing of a young fast winger in Dibling cant start a game etc - resigning Gana at the age of 36 years old a gamble etc -

Harrison Armstrong sent out on loan when he was claiming he was impressing him as a manager in training - hence this thread _ I am not anti DM , but results will decide if the new owners keep him not the GOT forum -

The 3 promoted teams strongest for seasons one who has beat us alas they were fortunate in the 2nd half , but it was a defeat -
This season was for DM to push on fans were hoping for top six etc -

10 games in we have stuttered a bit - time will tell - DM has not got protection as he had in his first spell with us a new stadia - new owners = a totally different situation for him as teams above have manages to spend mega money on players - its a hard task for him or any other Manager who comes in with our fair play restrictions that other clubs just seem to get around .... the big 6 in particular ....
I know it’s not the Moyes thread, but the next 2 games are massive for him, if tonight he goes with the same 11, and it goes against us. He will be under huge pressure going into Fulham and if we’re 17ty and maybe a point about the relegation zone 11 games in and an international break. TFG could pull the trigger

…..he was useless out of possession, I recall Martinez told him not to bother. Amazing to think of that today. Possibly the best he ever played was at Luton, maybe the penny dropped and he realised his responsibilities.

Thought Martinez ruined him in that way mate, knocked any balance out of his game. He definitely didn’t need to be told he was World Class every week and not work on the weaknesses in his all rounds game.

Pity, he could and should have been a generational talent.

I’ve pinched this from the Dibbling thread . Whatever people’s views on Armstrong and our current team this is possibly the most compelling reason to leave him at Preston and it belies the myth that “ If they’re good enough Moyes will pick them”. Clearly not.

I'm not a man that looks for stats, but that really does paint Moyes in a new light.

Preston v Swansea 19:45

( Hopefully he plays, but i wouldn't be surprised if he was Rested or on the Bench after Saturday. Ran himself ragged and came off with some kind of niggle )

Moyes is the ultimate realist/pragmatist manager, he doesn’t take ( in his view) unnecessary chances , reduces risks and his focus is on avoiding relegation and getting his team as many points as possible. That’s a statement , not a criticism, and many people will be happy with that as that’s his job as our manager. He’ll play experienced PL players over youth/inexperienced PL players every time, hence Rohl and Dibling not getting on Monday night. He will need to change some things, but this is why I don’t buy the “ he’ll always give young players a chance if they’re good enough” theme.

If Armstrong continues to progress over the season & if he and Dibling are performing well in preseason...with Moyes as manager.

You would hope the decision is an easy one for Moyes. But no one I'd imagine in their right mind believes he would use either of them consistently if there was a 6/10 option 10 years older.

Part of my initial thinking regarding not going out on loan was that he would be around Moyes and first team and maybe get 10 or so PL games off the bench. I think all youngsters need that “bedding in time” for the PL , they can’t just walk into a starting spot in the first team. The games Armstrong is getting at Preston are undoubtedly making him better, stronger, more rounded etc, but he’ll still need bedding into the first team and PL even with an outstanding pre season. Hopefully we get it right for him.
