Well mate, I'm English, I'm not Turkish. Saint George was born in Nicomedia, which is modern day Turkey.

I don't need a Turkish man hi-jacked to be a patron saint of England, to be English. Like I don't get all patriotic when our Greek/German monarchy decide to show their face.

Is that what being English is about? Not for me.
 

I'm just using it as an excuse to extend my weekend.

I'm getting very pissed tonight in dirty Leeds, and I will stay that way until very late on Sunday.

Id rather have the dragon as the patron saint. Wtf happened to it anyway? Feel sorry for the poor bugger really, he must have family somewhere like. Bet they hate days like today.
 
I don't celebrate St. George's day but i'm proud to be English, even if England is becoming a joke.

Well **** the government, it's a global issue this credit thing, and probably originated from America. The government has never really done great things so don't worry about them.

What else is becoming a joke, just out of interest?

They speak funny on purpose, lad. It's a way of lulling us into a false sense of security so they can steal our birds. But Ghost has got the measure of 'em.

Hahaha - there were no Turks there for another 1,000 years Dixie - he was a Roman soldier who probably spoke Greek and latin.
And Phil the Greek isn't really Greek, he's Danish and German with a bit of English.
 

Dear England (Dad),

Happy Birthday mate. The place here is good. We are settling in quite nicely and have a good, but not great infrastructure, housing can be pricey but we do have an excellent record in Health. We tidy up too, which is good when we get visitors. They like coming over. Sorry about the teen angst a couple of years back, I felt just awful about that.

I know your having some battles within your house, and mate you and Mum are doing the best you can with young Asbo. Little brother is getting out of control but we know you'll look after him. Same all over the neighborhood lately but you know, if **** starts going down, get on the blower and we'll be right over.

Enjoy the day, and remember, you've been around alot longer than us and we look up to you. We know you'll lead the way when the chips are down.

See you for Uncle Americas Birthday, I hope he doesn't set fire to his own house again. Or whoever it was.

I would never wear an England or British flag. Never.

As for St Georges Day, when I see Morris Dancers, people are taking the pss big time.

I am happy for any "nation" to celebrate its national day. Its just a shame that until recently St Georges Day could be called BNP national rally day.

I won't be celebrating it, but good luck to those who do. I regard myself as a British national and African-Caribbean by ethnic origin.

...and of course an Evertonian.

i for one have never and will never celabrate st.patrick's day, i am not irish i am english, i'll leave that to all the irish and A.W.I.'S (americans without identities). we allow all and sundry to celebrate religious and cultural events yet ban ourselves from celebrating our own identity. for me, ban all the others as well, if you want to celebrate burns night etc mr. brown then [Poor language removed] back to scotland to do so, it should be bannned here !! our flag and national identity was hijacked by the far right but by preventing us from celebrating who we are , we are pushed towards the right to regain our identity.
