Quite surprised by the level of attempted needling tbf.

Performance was turd, but it leaves England in a really good position. Inarguable that theyd go out without a better performance or more positive approach against better teams in the knock outs.

The US are in a great place too. I thoroughly expect them to beat Iran.

I think our Welsh chums know the gig is up, but I suppose they / he needs his fun.
Oh you just wait

Sorry , I thought this was a football fans forum!
Well for me, football is always better when you dont know what comes next, the unpredictability.

But im the same with films, I very, very rarely watch the same film twice.

Although Face Off and The Rock were the first DVDs I ever bought and watched those quite a few times.

I can't believe you actually believe me here tbh lol

I do watch loads of films more than once tho

Foden is a winger and Mount is being used (wrongly) in midfield. I agree he's better than Mount but that exact change doesn't work. Pep wouldn't use Foden there either.

You settled for 0-0 because you were stymied in the middle and the US had started to get the upperhand territorially in the second half. It was wise in the circumstances but the problem of not having a good midfield is not going away. They can maybe try Gallagher but he's probably too similar to Bellingham. Henderson and Rice is too defensive. Mount plays as a forward now and isn't able to do enough as a midfielder. No good answers.
I actually think the best one for that role in the squad is Madders who was not fit yesterday. I agree Mount and Foden are pretty much wide forwards these days. They rarely play as 10s let alone deeper.

I don’t think it has anything to do with size, China would be the best side in the world if that had anything to do with it. Regardless of population, Belgium produced a set of players that was the best in the world on paper for a number of years. Who’s the blame for them not performing at international level?
Soccernomics is a good read if you are so inclined, and it makes the point that it is a combination of size of population, wealth (ability to spend leisure time devoted to this rather than having to work from an early age to survive and nutrition) and infrastructure/tradition. For example usa struggles due to not having the infrastructure. My children have had some very poor coaches over the years and will not reach their potential as a result and they won't be alone (not that they ever would have been pros).

Book goes on to use those factors to propose who should be where in international rankings. England is right where it should be, mostly due to having a smaller population than, say, Germany. China rightly does not factor high due to there being no history and coaching infrastructure.

I think in 2018 they were fine and lost to possibly the one team that was more stacked than them. 2016 they were awful
