It's an idea I've long thought should be brought back, hell they did it initially when building up Ryback and it worked, but for whatever reason they won't stick to it incase it draws viewers away or something. Looking back on a Raw pre-Attitude era (93-97) compared to a Raw today is like watching two different worlds in terms of match styles. Then you were lucky to have a World/IC/Tag/Women's title match on free TV, now it's a regularity.
On the subject of squashes, it amazes me how many jobbers from the early 90's went on to become stars in their own right, for example
The Kid - beaten regularly on TV till that magical night he beat Razor Ramon then has a rocket strapped to him which saw him be one of a few men to be both an NWO and DX member as well as winning European, Tag, Cruiser, Light Heavy and other titles.
Scott Taylor - spent years taking pastings from the likes of Papa Shango, Undertaker etc before become far better known as Scotty 2 Hotty
The Hardyz - both were regular whipping boys for the likes of Razor Ramon, Nikolai Volkoff, RVD and so on but went on to be one of WWE's best tag teams with Jeff winning 3 WWE and World titles as well as IC, Euro, Light Heavy and Hardcore belts and Matt winning Euro, Cruiser and ECW titles. Both went to TNA where Jeff won that world title 3 times and is on time out while Matt was part of ROH's S.C.U.M angle and currently mentors World champion Adam Cole
