Hindu Squats and Push Ups

Two of the more unpleasant things you can do at the gym, but I've really felt an improvement since doing more of them

I hate push ups though, HATE them!

Two of the easiest things you can do at the gym. Push ups are easy mate, seriously. I can't comment on these Hindu squats, there's not enough bleach in the house for me to drink!

All joking aside, try and progress onto something more beneficial. While those two exercises are better than nothing, neither are very good and you can progress faster using different movements and get greater rewards for doing so.

An overhead squat, or a front squat, would see you make far more rapid progress.

And a push press would make a significant visual and physiological difference to you over a press up. Same goes for drips, but I'd favour the push press unless you have a lower back issue.

It's noticeable how much bigger rugby players are now to even 10 years ago. I watched highlights from when England played New Zealand in 2002. Lomu was obviously still around then, but nowadays most backs aren't far off of his size.

Maybe that was an unfair example, but both teams seemed so much more skillful than the England team of today.

Speaking of fitness mate, earlier in the week it struck me how un-athletic Laura Robson was looking at the French Open. For a pro athlete she looked to be carrying a whole lot of excess weight.

To put it into perspective, Sharapova is 8cm taller than Robson yet weighs 3kg less.

Sad thing is, you can't really say that out loud for fear you'll get accused of picking on women over their bodies etc.

Something I've noticed for years that. Even the truly athletic looking girls seem to be genetically lucky, so to speak. That said looking at Henin-Hardenne, Clijsters etc they have won a lot of tournaments over the years.

Even Davenport, who looks as athletic as the average darts player, won Grand-slams.

Suspect there's a lot of money to be made by the top S&C guys in female tennis.

Makes me wonder how it happens. With the training and competition they must do, they must burn plenty of calories. Kinda suggests their diet isn't very good, which for elite athletes shouldn't be the case.

Should be said that it's far from the case for all of them. Stefi Graf was very slim, Henin likewise, Heather Watson is in good shape. A lot aren't though. Robson looks to be carrying a good stone or two too much.

S&C wouldn't be too difficult for Tennis, and the way someone looks isn't always an indication of their strength. Colin Jackson and Jonathan Edwards were pretty normal looking, not very muscular etc, but both were extremely strong. Heavily predisposed for myofibral hypertrophy, and clearly low responders to sarcoplasmic hypertrophy

Seeing as tennis is a bit of a rich persons sport though, in the main, it's highly unlikely there aren't some hormone enhancers flying about there

No doubt some of the girls are strong enough, but they look overweight to me, which can't help their mobility much, can it?

Re the doping, I'd be amazed if that wasn't the case. Think tennis has about as much interest in un-earthing the dopers as rugby does (or football)

TBH I think the advances to be made with more than a few are on the conditioning side. Strength wise you can see the way tennis has evolved for women over the past decade with the dominance of the Williams sisters, two of the most powerful players ever.

Take a look at the pic above of Robson. From what I can see there's easily 7kg to come off that'd have no negative effects performance and strength wise.

That's also got a negative effect on mobility which is massive in tennis, especially on Clay courts. Power more so on hard courts.

I wonder if these guys are making the right adjustments over the season?? And it's obvious the nutrition is off for some.

are you doing so work just on this forum.

Tennis players aren't particularly arsed about their physique in general really are they. Federer didn't really care and he's one of the best players ever.

His Physique is arguably perfect for Tennis Brownz. Most sportsmen arent interested in looks for looks sake. But if it hampers your performance then you need to take action. I.e an overweight striker.

How is it perfect for tennis?
