Yeah, that is seriously fast.
I started doing some technique work on running. I rather naively just assumed that there wasn't much to it, but now I'm learning about stuff like forefoot striking... seems that there's more to this running lark than I first thought.
Its funny you mention this as ive always wondered this too. Here in Boston and around this area in general, people are out jogging literally at all hours. People are everywhere. Its extremely common here. Yet everyone has their own running technique for what works for them.

I used to make fun of the people with weird strides and those that don't move their arms but keep them tucked into their chest etc... ' gay arse, why is he running like that, can't be right '. Now it all makes sense

This season I´ve been caught out a bit at RB by my lack of acceleration.

Aside from sprints are there any specific things I can do in the gym to get faster? Like particular weights?

I'd recommend the documentry " Rocky 3 " on how to build up your speed. If you follow the program you will be able to beat our African-American cousins in a race.

Yep

Target the hip flexors with box squats, make sure you sit back as opposed to turning it into a quad dominated movement. Box squats are not the same as squatting to a box, the latter is stupid

Purchase a GHR bench if your gym doesn't have one. You can pick up a floor one at the strength shop

Deadlifts, work on speed though and keep the reps low, singles, doubles, triples etc.

The use of bands can also help with acceleration (Woody bands)

few things on this. speed is different to quickness. Which are you getting caught on - being out accelerated or in straight line speed?
turning speed is different to sprinting speed - look up drills for improving turning and also SAQ (speed and quickness) drills.

second - speed is a skill and is coachable. As in, you can teach your body to be faster.

things like box jumps for explosive power.

sled pulls are great.
