Goodison Park

I'll always miss Goodison. I know we needed to leave, and I absolutely love the new place, but part of me will always prefer the grittness of the old lady. The atmosphere being dead 99% of the time there for last five or so years made leaving easier as did the magnificence of the new place but I mostly miss the community that I had in the Lower Gwladys. It feels like there's new people around me most home games now and its so strange after having the same people near me for so long. That's kinda on me for going in the lower when I knew all the older lads where going into the upper but even so, I hope the new place builds a bit more of a community feeling to it over time.

There is more atmosphere at the crucible Theatre than what there is it the new stadium
So about the same as Goodison for 99% of games for the last five or so years then? Because outside of a handful of games, Goodison had zero atmosphere going for it. I remember the good times too and how the old place would feel like it was shaking at times, but let be honest here. How many times can you remember that in recent years? Take away the derby from last season and the one before and Bournemouth the year before that and what are you left with? How is it any different to what we have now? The only difference between Goodison and the new place is that at Goodison most of us regulars knew everyone around us so it felt easier to get stuff going (which makes the terrible atmosphere we had even sader).

The atmosphere at BMD absolutely will improve if one of two things happen.

1) We get better and people start to actually enjoy watching the match again.

Or 2) We get a singing section. This might annoy some people but it was needed at Goodison and its needed now. I don't know if its a long-term solution and its certainly not ideal but it'll help get more noise and vibe going at the match if we at least have a large group of lads sitting together who are committed to it.

BMD will never replace Goodison for me, but in time it will build and grow its own magic I think.
Just shy of 40yrs going to The Old Lady and every game I got the same excited feeling walking up from Stanley Park, seeing her in the frosty mist on a cold January night or bathed in sunshine for the first game of a new season. Hairs on the back of the neck whether it was a derby or a 3rd round Littlewoods Cup game against a second division side.
I’m hopeful BMD will have its own atmosphere, its own unique feel in years to come….its an incredible stadium but is taking some getting used to especially the god-awful digital season tickets.

Because we've been crap. If we were winning every home game it would be different. Goodison was very quiet at times as well.
The seating is to mixed. We need the scallys in the LG together, the skunkers in the LB together, the families in specific family areas only, and the oaps given their section that isn't some heart attack inducing trek up the Himalayas. Then the nouveau riche can stake out a claim, and the rest will fit in in between.
The irony of the new stadium is, the only section of the crowd that is guaranteed in the same area with who they know and can rely on is the away zone.

Zero crowd dynamic management considered. No wonder there are so many grumbles turning up.

I loved Goodison, partly because I saw us win the league four times there. The famous semi-final victory over Bayern Munich, during which us fans famously sucked the ball over the line, also lives long in the memory.

But how can you miss any other stadium when you've got Bramley-Moore? Have you seen it FFS? We are on the Banks of the Royal Blue Mersey and for once we are the envy of the league.

It's the fans that generate the atmosphere, not the bricks. And we have more fans at BM. Bramley-Moore, against Palace, was louder than Goodison ever was.

We just need a team to go with it now. In fairness, we have been desperately unlucky with suspensions and injuries and AFCON etc.

Goodison Park was never ever built for seating - in its day when it was built for terraces, it was a magnificent stadium of its era - the infrastructure of transport was far better car parking = just - BMD - I believe is a fantastic Stadia for the seating bars cafes etc for the 21st century - However My older brother commented on the Transport & virtually NIL parking - is a disgrace - needs sorting - if the other lot had a ground down there - the Liverpool city council would do their utmost to have in place immediately-

To me sat at home watching the blues - the away fan noise is far to advanced in away they must have a kind spot for them to be heard that loud is off putting to say the least ? they don't half come about as having a good vantage point maybe to good ?

Which may spoil the BMD atmosphere - Newcastle have them on the top tier in a corner ....

Also our home record so far has not been that great ....

this is just how it is in English football. The team generate the atmosphere regardless of your opinions on if this is the correct way around or not. Look at any team who’s doing good at the minute, decent atmosphere right? Where was the Arsenal fans 5 years ago, where was the Newcastle fans when they was struggling? Not seeing many lads with guitars at anfield this season.

Fans aren’t cheer leaders. In general fans give a bit but if they don’t get anything back off the team it falls flat on its face. 30 years of drab football, not going to muster up much of an atmosphere. Spurs struggle with atmosphere aswell
