Goodison atmosphere

After yesterdays atrocious performance against the Canaries, I wanted some opinions on why Goodison's atmosphere isn't the same as it was.

Obviously the atmosphere is incredible when we're playing well and winning but how can we do our part to boost the atmosphere when the game is dull or we're playing badly/losing instead of just moaning and shouting abuse at referees.

Impossible ask. Our fans have been beaten over the head for years and still turn up in great numbers and when the team shows the right spirit and effort the support is there.

to ask the fans to create a winning atmosphere when seeing what is served up yesterday is not the right way to look at it.

Show some commitment

Play with passion

A good manager at the helm with tactics that work and who fights the clubs corner not a wet lettuce.

Basically all of the above that we havent got at present.

I was proud of our fans yesterday - finally made our voice heard before we become the next Villa/Sunderland sleepwalking into obscurity.

Look at the atmosphere at palace. Proves you can have it without winning, and even without being much good.

but they’ve got a team that gives their all, however limited the team and their senile old manager are.

I´d say there´s quite a few new fans who´ve got season tickets over the last 5 years and they´ve never really experienced anything other than sitting around watching drab football.

I used to love watching a goal go in down the Street End, there were limbs everywhere. These days it´s a bit like watching the family enclosure celebrate. Sad reflection of the way things have gone.

I am old enough to make comparisons. Bingham and especially Lee were not that bad but when we wavered they got it and knew it. Howard the same. the difference was as dannyboy alludes towards, fans earned money the hard way and football then was a release you stood up and swore as you saw it, you sat down and it was more measured.

Football is now a darlings game hijacked by the middle class market and yesterday proved that. People just left and it was a minority at the final whistle going ape. In the dark days of 81. Yes we may have been don to 20 000 fans but they would have almost all been there at the end going ape. those 20 000 transported into yesterday would have blocked up Goodison Road after that SURRENDER. Fans have been battered into being PC.

Not just Everton. Most grounds are like libraries now. Fans are getting bored of the money and corruption in football.

They’re a different type of fan though. I used to know a couple of the holmesdale lot and they don’t even watch the games, they just go to be part of the group and jump up and down. Our fans are people who are actually interested in what’s going on on the pitch, thankfully.

It's because there's no hope of the long promised improvement on the horizon.

For me seeing Leicester again and the likes of wolves and sheff utd's and Burnley pushing for europe while we waste more time looking for a new manager is infuriating.

In many ways the new stadium cant come soon enough in order to act as a sort of clean slate and a new atmosphere.

I don't understand why we get any crowd at all let alone sell out we inhabit a 2 team city with the neighbours a global institution light years ahead. Bar the Martinez season Evertonians have had the arse bored off them for decades and suffered more false dawns than anyone else. I wouldn't pay 5 quid to watch this sorry incarnation of Everton.

Fans sitting on their hands silently praying for a miracle is borderline heroic imo given the circumstances

We do already

The cost of a ticket, the cost of merchandise we all throw down each and every season goes towards these lumps living a millionaires lifestyle. If earning 10's of thousands each and every week doesn't motivate you to go out and give your all for a club, then singing a song or three won't either.

The absolute bare minimum a player can do is to pull on our shirt, go out on the field give it 100%; to at least try and justify the money they earn.

The atmosphere is dull and dire because its a reaction to the utter mess and effort being shown by the players. We've already given the players the motivation to go out each game and make the effort ( their massive wages ). Where is the return ?

The current effort by the players, staff, the board, everyone bar the fans is nothing short of a disgrace to be quite honest.

Absolutely love a blame the fans thread.

Maybe the fans would’ve been slightly more supportive if they hadn’t have been played off the park by Norwich
I'm not blaming the fans for that performance, I just think that it should be more mutual than it is. Look at Palace and teams in Germany like Hamburg, the atmosphere at Selhurst is brilliant even if they're playing bad. I'm not saying we should get a drum to create a fake atmosphere like some teams but Palace don't need that drum.
