Golf 2022....

Fitzpatrick looked dead to rights destined to doing whatever he could to make a miracle par but more likely to drop a shot.

In the end his second shot was absolutely perfect. Totally stress free par in the end.

The only question then was could Zalatoris make his putt to send it to a playoff. He basically had the read from Fitzpatrick's birdie attempt. I was expecting him to make it to be honest. He nearly did. I think he will be disappointed that he didn't capitalize on a free read.

I also thought there was a really good chance of a three player playoff if Fitzpatrick made a bogey.

That would have been fun. Well played by Fitzpatrick to hit such an excellent shot to swerve that scenario entirely.

I used to be a member at the Hallanshire Golf Club, where Matt Fitzpatrick learned his golf. He's always been a very good player, but I admit it didn't think he quite had the bottle to win a major. It really helped him having won the US Amateur round the course, he just looked so much more comfortable than at the PGA. That long putt when he looked like par might be tricky and the amazing bunker shot at the last won him the tournament. Delighted for him, Sheffield and Yorkshire with Billy Foster on the bag, who so deserves a major.

Superb golf that and a profitable weekend !! Had both Fitzpatrick and Zalatoris in my bets, couldn't understand why I didn't get a payout on Scheffler till I logged into my account and realised I'd accidentally mixed him up with Schauffele !!

Great tournament and a great win, was a bit emotional watching Billy Fosters reaction and then the stream of people to congratulate Fitzpatrick.

Seems a great lad and really deserved that, has improved so much this year and a couple of times looked like he might just get that first US win under his belt but fell short. Certainly had the makings of the nearly man but fair play, stepped it up massively, when it was exactly needed, as the presentation interviewer said, it may now be known as the Fitzpatrick bunker.

Seems a nice lad.
I remember walking around Hillside with him when he was trying to qualify for the Open, I think about 8 years ago. He missed a green ( not by much ) and was like a spoilt child blaming his caddy . I'm sure he's matured since then.
Even then you could tell that he was a superb ball striker but he was very slight and I thought that his lack of athleticism would hold him back. How wrong I was.
His 2nd at the 18thwas as good as it gets.

I had backed Fitz off and on this season on the PGA tour but he always found a way to lose from a winning position. Then he goes and wins the hardest Major for his maiden PGA tour victory of any kind! Without my money on him naturally lol

Such an impressive group of golfers in their 20s in the mix yesterday (Fitzpatrick, Zalatoris, Scheffler, Morikawa)
The strength of the twenty-somethings on the Tour probably has a lot to do with the formation of LIV. It's the first time that I can recall so many twenty-somethings with a legit shot to win every time they tee it up. The last time the fields were this strong was probably the early 90's, when there were a lot of old-guard players who could still beat the younger players that were emerging.

This time around, the guys to beat are almost exclusively 30 and under, which is really unusual.

Amazing to think that Billy Foster has caddied for the likes of Seve, Garcia and Woods over the last 30+ years yet this is his first major “win”!

Brooks joining Liv Golf now as well

Wonder what changed

Probably good timing for him, he's injured more often than not. There's massive talent coming up behind him and overtaking him. He can play with his buddy Bryson a few times a year.
