Gibson and the new Belgian Lad Ofoe

Osman has no place in this current Everton team. The amount of times he is simply run out of the game or caught in possession is shocking

We now have Vadis, Gibson, Junior, Heitinga, Neville and Osman who can do a job in front of the back four so it seems like Moyes is planning on continuing with Fellaini behind Jelavic. I would if I was him.

The standard of job that Heitinga, Neville and Osman can do in front of the back four is the precise reason why the club went looking for another experienced player in that position. Junior is completely untried at EPL or equivalent level.

The only players who are known quantities at an acceptable standard of performance in the CDM role are Gibson and Fellaini, which is why Ofoe is an important recruit.

I aint seen anything of this Ofoe guy at all. Will he be ready to step into the Gibson role if Gibbo's injury keeps him out against Newcastle? It seems to me that Ofoe was signed as cover, last minute loan deal, de ja vu Segundo Castillo.
What about Fransico Junior? At least we've seen him play for us, in our system. Does anyone think he could make the step up to the first team holding role?

I see it more like

----Gibson--Ofoe-------
--------Fellaini----------
Mirallas-----------Pienaar
--------Jelavic----------

Except that's not how we've set out the team for more than a year. The point of signing Ofoe would appear to be to give us a third body to choose from when selecting our two CDMs, without that third person being Neville or Osman. If we want to genuinely challenge for a cup AND improve our league standing, we need a squad bigger than last year with a general talent level higher than last year.

The two anchors will be selected from Gibson, Fellaini and Ofoe, hopefully with Junior becoming an option later in the year when injuries and suspensions kick in.

The left side will be Pienaar, with Gueye backing him up. Oviedo will not be risked there very often because he is Baines' backup and long-term replacement. When Pienaar goes to the ACoN, I would expect Donovan to come in on loan and play on the right, which would in turn allow Mirallas to play on the left.

The right side of the attacking midfield three is still up in the air. Naismith and Mirallas were purchased to address this gaping hole and time will tell which one of them makes the position his own. Both might actually be better in other positions, but both are also better options than Coleman and Osman.

The central attacking midfielder in reality at this point should be Osman, unless we happen to be playing against United in which case we unleash Marouane the bogeyman upon them again. I would hope to see Barkley make a few appearances here, and when the inevitable injuries and suspensions kick in Pienaar, Naismith and Mirallas have all shown already that they can thrive behind the striker.

One thing I'm really optimistic about is the youth movement that appears to be underway. Of all our new arrivals, Naismith is the oldest at 25. We appear to actually be planning for the future.

On what basis can Vadis + Junior do a job in the back 4? What do you base it on?

Waits for, anyone but Moists Love-child Neville lolathon

Here's hoping to a good signing. Him and Oviedo could play a big part in keeping us up towards the top if/when injuries occur.

All I know is that with everyone fit Moyes has a selection headache and we will have a decent bench for a change.

Quite possible that we won't see players like Barkley, Gueye, Coleman and Vellios near the bench for some time.

What I meant to say was its how I'd like to see it not what I think Moyes will actually do.

So the rumour goes that Moyes wanted Essien but he went to Real so we settled for Vadis. I don't think Davey would be too concerned about his options as backup for Fellaini and Gibson. We're not suddenly going to be overrun if Heitinga, Neville or Osman have to spend a few games in that position because of injury or suspension. As far as I'm concerned Fellaini is thought of more as a forward now and the gaffer wanted someone to fill in for him on a more full time basis in the anchor role. If we had got Essien and paid him fortunes per week do you think that he'd be on the bench? And twin destroyers need to play together regularly to get in sync so I can't see rotation being much of an option.

Literally struggling to find anything to agree with. Everyone's entitled to an opinion, you and me included.

But for the record, not every new signing is destined to start. If they were, we'd never buy anyone once we had eleven players.

looking forward to these two starting in the middle of the park, looks like the this kid could be what we are looking for. lets just hope he can adapt quickly to the prem league and hit the ground running. phil neville and osman in the centre just aint good enough as a midfield two. so limited on saturday with them two in there.

I've just posted in the world football free agents thread, that they will offer Hargreaves a short term contract, if Gibson is out for any more than a month, regardless of Odjidja signing or not, interesting move for us, don't know what kind of fitness he has or what he can offer any more, he was certainly a brilliant player in his Munich days and his early England and Man Utd days as well.

Hargreaves ?

No chance.
