Gibbo

By that rubric SAF should have been inundated with bids galore for Gibson. As he came to Goodison and became in your opinion our best CM then where we're all the other big teams clamouring for his signature?
The fact is that he suits our style of play and compliments the more expressive players like Pienaar, Mirallas, Ossie and that big useless tree Fellaini. When we were known to be after Gibson the forums were alive with criticism for Moyes and some pretty unpleasant musings about Darron's lack of ability....now he's being hailed as the saviour. Quite simply he has been an excellent signing, but by all measures Fellaini is a more valuable, influential and coveted midfielder.

Interestingly, Mark Hughes tried to sign neither.

Steve Bruce almost did . He was a sunderland player last season, who were gonna pay 5million for him but he turned them down.

As for Gibbo. The only thing with him out is that Neville is in as his replacement. We still attack the same, we still score plenty. The only problem is breaking up play.

A better DM came in than Nev, it'll be business as usual.

I think this count guy is in a massive minority in thinking that Gibson is our best midfielder, but I think the vast majority thinks Gibson is properly boss. I am generalising but those are my suspicions.. based on logic and sense and non-wummingness.

I thought Gibson would be a good signing for us ages ago, people had this idea he was crap for no reason other than the fact that he didn't play every week for Man.Utd. I didn't see him as a defensive midfielder but as a player who has really good passing ability and possesses a thunderous shot. He's proven to be even better than I thought like as he has shown the ability to be a holding player as well. A Busquets style 'pivot' and someone he finds clever positions and space all the time, he seems to get better each week as he gets used to our team more and more and he's come out of his shell more in the last month or two of last season and his first few games of this season, comes along with match fitness and the confidence he gets from being appreciated by the club and his team-mates. A £15-20m player bought for £500k, terrific from Moyes.

Where is the statistic for losing your runner and not protecting your defence adequately enough?

And what position was Fellaini playing in when those statistics were recorded?

The simple truth is that if Fellaini was half as good as some people believe he is in the CM position, then Moyes would play him there, but he doesn't, even when everyone thinks he should do, like against Newcastle.

If he was that good, then there would have been at least one club interested in him before he signed a new contract. In reality, nobody was interested in him, and all of these absurd valuations of him being a 30million pound player have come as him playing the second striker role.

Whereas at least Sunderland were interested in Gibson? At half a million.

Gibson is fantastic, no nonsense, does everything without any fuss, and usually don't notice he's there. Except when he doesn't play.
He is a different player to Fellaini, Fellaini is more attacking and playing in an advanced role so he's going to get the plaudits....plus he is ace ;)

The price was higher as it was during the summer. £3-£5 million I believe. In fact Sunderland tried to then make a second offer to Gibson that vastly reduced the wages originally offered as they thought they would rather pick up some other gems on offer instead (Gardner, Vaughan). That turned out well for them...

And Wes Brown.

Gibson has alot more potential than people realise. With the exception of two loan spells, early on in his career, he played very little in all the time he was at united. If he can stay free from injury, get a decent run of games behind him, he could be a fantastic midfielder. At the moment I think he is just what we need at this point in time. If he can get better then we will as a consequence. It really is amazing how little he has played....

Are we still undefeated when he plays? Because he started against West Brom, but went off at 0-0. How do people feel about this controversial issue?

We were undefeated during the time he played that game so I think we can still stretch that a little to fit.
Still undefeated when he plays
