Erm...

20th of August 2012:

So apparently you know more about what Moyes thinks than Moyes himself. Moyes seems to think that Fellaini behind the striker is his best position, but to say that he isn't good at CM because Moyes doesn't play him there is absurd.

Cristiano Ronaldo would be ace up front, the fact the plays on the wing doesn't change that.

I don't think he is good at CM due to his defensive weaknesses, it's got nothing to do with where Moyes chooses to play him. I just think it is strange that we are playing Neville and Osman in midfield whilst the next Zidane is also available to us.

If he was playing so well, why didn't we receive a single bid for him when his contract was running down? I mean, he is supposedly worth at least 35million, so you would have thought someone would have been interested?

When was the last time Fellaini started a premier league game in central midfield? When will be the next time? If he was that good in that position then he wouldn't be waiting months to start there. But what is far, far more pertinent, is his performances when he does drop deep. The team becomes weaker, and we become more likely to concede.

I'm loath to mention kipper on here but really does have the posting style of a self appointed footballing scout & advisor to distin of defensive technique , staveros ?

I don't think it is Staveros.

Looks like he has been banned anyway. It must have been for all that abuse he was dishing out.

Just how good do you think Fellaini is when Moyes plays him further up the pitch?

So am I right in thinking that the original argument of he's our best midfielder by the count, is now at he's our best midfielder that doesn't play left or right and plays specifically in the CM for us at this time?.
I guess since he is our CM.. you sir are correct.. he is.
He's still our 3rd best midfielder though.

Rubbish.

He was destroying everyone in midfield for a year and a half, that's why Everton had to knock back all those bids that were being made when his contract was running out.

Just how many bids did we turn down again? It must have been at least 5.

By that rubric SAF should have been inundated with bids galore for Gibson. As he came to Goodison and became in your opinion our best CM then where we're all the other big teams clamouring for his signature?
The fact is that he suits our style of play and compliments the more expressive players like Pienaar, Mirallas, Ossie and that big useless tree Fellaini. When we were known to be after Gibson the forums were alive with criticism for Moyes and some pretty unpleasant musings about Darron's lack of ability....now he's being hailed as the saviour. Quite simply he has been an excellent signing, but by all measures Fellaini is a more valuable, influential and coveted midfielder.

Interestingly, Mark Hughes tried to sign neither.

Gibson is a massive player us, and he has been great for us so far, he does everything he needs to, he protects the back four brilliantly, he is a very good passer and he can pick out any pass short or long, and he just gets the job done. People don't notice him as much because he doesn't go and take 4 or 5 players on with skill but he gives the opportunity to others like pienaar and mirallas ect to do that. gives other players freedom.
