Thats not even up for dispute.

Gibson and Fellaini make us tick and both play superbly in their current roles.

Gibson is a decent central midfielder who has certain attributes. So when he plays in a midfield that so often previously lacked that he's bound to improve the team.

Its pretty simple really, you have a proper midfielder in midfield you'll play better than when you don't.

Your clearly overlooking the previous 4 Years in which he played in midfield, its an easy mistake to make, I mean its 4 years, its only around about 130 games or so, I can see why you would totally overlook it.

Oh yeah, I remember him previously playing in midfield, he just wasn't very good there.

The extreme hype, and drastic over valuation of Fellaini is a result of him mastering the second striker role. Nobody was interested in him when his contract was running down, and valuations of 35million pound plus would have been laughed out of town.

Whereas people are actually making that valuation with a straight face these days, and it wasn't even a year ago that he signed his new contract whilst turning down all those other offers he had available to him!

He's that good that he doesn't even play in midfield, and when he does, our team looks far weaker for it.

Where is the statistic for losing your runner and not protecting your defence adequately enough?

And what position was Fellaini playing in when those statistics were recorded?

The simple truth is that if Fellaini was half as good as some people believe he is in the CM position, then Moyes would play him there, but he doesn't, even when everyone thinks he should do, like against Newcastle.

If he was that good, then there would have been at least one club interested in him before he signed a new contract. In reality, nobody was interested in him, and all of these absurd valuations of him being a 30million pound player have come as him playing the second striker role.

This totally disregards all semblance of tactics and incorporating different players into a side. Gerrard has played loads of games out on the right for example.

You are correct. But how long is this going to go on for? When was the last time Fellaini started a premier league game in CM? When will be the next time?

For me it boils down to a number of things:

Who is better at protecting our defence?
Who is better at creating opportunities?
Whose name sounds more foreign?
Who has the better hairdo?

Gibson is clearly the answer for questions one, two and four. However Gibson's midfield play is drastically reduced in quality due to him having a very British surname.

Erm...

Later Fellaini reverted to play in his favoured defensive midfield area. His performances in late 2009 and early 2010 became so impressive that David Moyes labelled him "as good as anyone in the league", and he re-iterated this after Fellaini won Man of the Match against Manchester City on 16 January.

In November 2011 he signed a new five-year contract with the club.[SUP][19][/SUP] He finished the season having won the most tackles, aerial duels and made more passes than anyone else at the club. He won the second highest amount of tackles in the league and won possession of the ball 190 times, the most out of any player.

20th of August 2012:

Marouane Fellaini is a really good player. We can play him behind the striker, in the middle or because of his power in the air we can play him as a defensive one as well.

So apparently you know more about what Moyes thinks than Moyes himself. Moyes seems to think that Fellaini behind the striker is his best position, but to say that he isn't good at CM because Moyes doesn't play him there is absurd.

Cristiano Ronaldo would be ace up front, the fact the plays on the wing doesn't change that.
