Gibbo

When we signed him I remember a few Red ****e fans taking the piss. I didn't know enough about him to put up a defence but Gibson has filled the boots left by Lee Carsley for me. He's that player every team needs. The kind of player that doesn't do anything flash just gets the ball and gives it to someone who's better with it. Kinda vital really.

Osman has a better first touch and much quicker feet. Gibson has a decent range of passing and he plays with his head up.

Agree, I also reckon they are both capable of good long shots, Osmans heading is very good at times, Gibson is stronger but overall Gibson plays him off the park simply with his decision making, defending and passing. The three main attributes required for his position.
Osman is a good player though and unlike some here, I am never upset when he plays.

On current form we should be more than capable of beating Wigan without him. He gets another two weeks rehab, then a warm up game against qpr ready for the ****e!!

Can't get that link to work as my work PC is a bit rubbish...

but, we have missed him loads. It can't be a coincidence that we hardly ever lose when he is playing.
He's not spectacular but his job is so so important isn't it?

The Lee Carsley of this team?

Oh for gods sake Moyes, not another flaming injury-prone, Man United cast-off..

That was the cry from the vast majority of Evertonians on the 13th January this very year.

Yet i bet everything i have, that not a single one of us still thinks that now.

When Everton paid Manchester United the fee reported to be anywhere between 100k- 500k, Evertonians shook their head, while Man United fans everywhere were giving their 'good riddance' speeches.

Its no coincidence, that Darron Gibson was not on the losing side in Club football for nearly 2 years, the fact that Everton went on to lose to West Brom after being outfought after GIbsons injury in the early stages of it, merely highlights his importance to our team.

So what does Gibson offer?

Someone once described Darron Gibson to me as 'glue'..

The one who sticks all the good elements of the team together to make them a complete article, and after his first few performances in a blue shirt, it was easy to see why.

Although Everton have had a terrific start, it could and should have been that much better, not just withstanding the refereeing howlers, but the defensive unit at times without Gibbo has looked on some occasions, very rocky indeed, and i doubt very much that the 2 goals conceded at Wigan on Saturday would have happened with him in the side.

Without the brilliant astute positional sense that Darron Gibson offers to us, just playing in front of the back four as a shield, and sitting in enabling both Baines and whoever it is at RB any given day, to go forward with attacking intent, and without worry of being caught out further upfield with no protection.

Gibson also offers himself and gets involved in the play, and whatsmore, his ability in the holding midfield role, enables David Moyes to utilise the qualities of Marouane Fellaini in an advanced role that so far this season, he has flourished in.

Gibson himself had a 90% pass completion rate in the 3-1 win at Aston Villa in his 70 minutes on the pitch, so that shows hes not just an enforcer, but can use the ball effectively, also we all know by now that he has a terrific shot on him, as proved with his first goal for Everton against Man City in the back-end of last season, his set pieces are also of a good quality.

So for those who were too quick to judge, myself included, we owe Darron Gibson a big heartfelt apology, and i for one cannot wait to see that number 4 shirt back in the Everton starting 11, and the sooner the better.

That's the full article mate. He is our Lee Carsley, Mr dependable he brings a calmness to the midfield which we miss badly when he's out. We are going to need him more than ever now Fellaini is out.

So true, not sure about the first two lines, was he really written off by the vast majority before he started?
But the whole glue description is very apt.

Not sure he was written off as such but a few were scratching their heads at what he was going to offer us, he's more than proved his worth so far for me.
