Gareth Barry is the very definition of a quality professional. I can hardly find a place where he's put a foot wrong since he put on the blue jersey. He and McCarthy have been superb together.

Have to say not sure we need him. Look better with pace of Gerard, rather we tried to sign him if possible. McGeady is a good player but if him and Pienaar played in the same team we'd lack pace.

Barry is the lynchpin to how we play in Martinez's style. Lukaku and Gerry are rightly getting the plaudits but Barry pulls it all together and always gives Jagielka and Distin an option. We know we won't keep Deufoleu ( well, maybe for one more season ) and signing Romelu permanently is unlikely but if we hold on to Barry I'll be happy.

Ask any Villa or Citeh fan about him and they'll respond with a wistful look.
