That's the point of growing climbers like Clematis isn't it? Pretty sure the brick wall on our last house was only staying up because of the ivy on it.
Ivy eats the pointing away - Clematis are great especially the Montana varieties they grows quickly great for using by planting it along another tall plant as it self clinging tendrils just climb up the original planting with very little maintenance the hybrids are more difficult & need more pruning ...
They have much larger flowers than Montanas

@Joey66 front lawn has loads of moss, reckon this would sort it or would you recommend something else?

Its all very well getting rid of your moss - but you have to work out what is causing it before treatment - usually waterlogged areas poor light on your lawn - do not rake it out but aerate the soil adding a gritty sand in the holes you make to apply drainage - then in warmer weather kill the moss & if its in a shady spot - sow a grass seed that like shade with a good top dressing of light soil & compost one hand full & a half per Square metre no need to buy a machine to spread it - cheaper by hand mix your seed in a large trug with a good mixture of compost & fine soil after the moss is dead you rake it away - do not do this if it is alive as spores will just spread it everywhere on your lawn -

I have over sown in my day Bowling greens in his fashion - a good petrol scarifying & hollow tinner can be hired depending on how big your area is if you want to do a complete over sow of your lawn - if your area is small a garden fork lift the surface is good enough pushing the fork in on a angle & lifting upwards the pulling out that's when you brush your sandy in the admiration you have made -

This is best done when the weather warms up mis April onwards also add a spring lawn feed to you top dressing before seeding -

Home Bargain has the cheapest grass seed & moss killer - your builder merchant's will have the washed gritty sand & light top soil - also purchase a fine multi purpose compost to add to the mix - preparation before moss killing & seed sowing is paramount ATM do not disturb any moss as it will just spread the spores even more - let it warm up order your stuff in or get your seed shade free if it is in a shaded area, but after all the rain I think its probably just bad drainage in areas that need treating ...

When the moss is dead it goes black use a scarifying rake & bin it ,,,, plus your lawn will look a lot bearer with large patches then start the process above when it warms up in 4-6 weeks ... see in the warmth well watered in will germinate in 7 days it need 1/2 an inch of mix to germinate in ..... ;)

Thanks joey appreciate that.

Its a fairly big space, neglected long before I moved in. There's trees that cover it and poor drainage. I have a scarifier so I'll get to work.

Do not scarify the moss areas until you apply moss killer in about 4 weeks it has to warm up & have drier conditions to scarify your lawn ;)

then you can do everything at once if you have shade sow a good shade loving grass seed .... I would over sow the bad areas IMO sand top soil you only need an inch & lifting air pockets will let the top dressing & seed fall in the areas too ;)

sand slitting is used on football pitches etc google it it sure works on drainage ....
