I read the books after series 1 before Stannis was introduced, I had Mark Strong in my head as Stannis, I think he would have been excellent, took me awhile to get used to the guy they chose. I agree the show doesn't really highlight his devotion to doing the right thing.
thats my beef, he's not ned stark, but he's the one devoted to duty not ambition, and he could be such a cool character, I also love watching liam cunnigham, so the more the better for me

They seem to love her don't they? I've one off her massively since reading the books.

The chapter that was cut from the TV series where her and her handmaiden lez it up must of been in one of the earlier books then:)

Being serious though her story does drag on badly, but the dragons need time to grow up and get big enough to use in battle.

I think me going off her is more to do with learning more about the Targaryan's and what they were like tbh.

The targs, for the most part were a-holes. There was the occasional good one (Dany, Rhaegar) but there were all the loons to make up for them....

Feels like Daenarys is going that way as well IMO.

Would much rather Stannis on the throne than her.

The Rhaegar and Lyanna story is the heart of the entire series. If you don't see how Daenarys, Jon, and Tyrion are tied together, you haven't read closely enough.

I've come round to the Rhaegar/lyanna Jon Snow theory. The three dragon riders is interesting, I think Daenarys, Aegon and Tyrion myself, Tyrion being half Targ. Interested to see what role Victorian and the horn will play in relation to the dragons as well. I'm gonna start a second read from the start after the summer as I rushed through them the first time, hopefully time it so I finish in time for the Winds of Winter

I see how Jon and Dany are related but I don't see how Tyrion comes into it?

I think I read a rumour some where that the mad king raped Tywin Lannister's wife, making him Tryion's father. That being the reason that Tywin hates him so much. i can't even remember where I've heard this and it's only a rumour so it's probably bollocks. It's the only reason I can see why Tyrion's connected.

I think if that's true Tywin doesn't know, otherwise he would have got rid of him when he was born.

yer the theory is that the mad king raped Tywins wife Joanna but she took the secret to the grave to avoid a war. Also Targs have purple eyes in the book, tyrion has odd coloured eyes. Tyrion was fascinated by dragons as a child and had dragon dreams like Danny did and when he fell in that infected river john Connington pulled him out and contracted "grey scale" on his arms but Tyrion was completely unaffected.

Seems plausible tbh, how could he be the 3rd dragon though? There's already Dany, Jon (if true) and Aegon..
