Just watched it, its really going miles away from the books.

100% this. As a generic action episode, tonight was great.... but the whole point of GoT, and what makes the books so good, is that it's NOT generic action. Sadly the show is not reflecting the very complex relationships between the characters, and the constant reminders that life isn't fair are being removed in favour of "Hollywood" sequences.

Bit of a let down for me, all in all.

I wouldn't mind them moving away from tubby's nihilistic views, life isn't always fair, it rarely is, but there are moments when common decency can triumph and justice can be served, it would be nice to see an odd moment of this, rather than just basking in gloom, even in the darkest stories humanity can triumph

They have just wasted an entire episode, and spent the most amount of money in the history of the series, on 50 minutes of the principal Nights Watch storyline characters running around a castle courtyard killing extras, and with both sides doing a load of stuff that made no sense at all. It was terrible.

I enjoyed the episode a lot, I agree that the whole episode shouldn't have been solely on the nights watch especially as episode 8 left a lot to follow up, my only hope is they don't over complicate the next episode with so many different stories all trying to catch up.

They really need to be careful how they handle Lady Stoneheart IMHO
