Only caught on to GOT recently from towards the end of the third season so im not up to date with all the backstories yet,

so someone tell me whats the deal with these white walkers and why do they want the baby?

and for those who've read the books, later down the line what happens to the dwarf, does he end up all right?

Pal, do yourself a favour and spend a a week watching every episode from the start. You will thank yourself for it.

The White Walkers don't want that specific baby for any particular reason - they want all the babies. They want to wipe out everything South of the wall.

I think we all need to be prepared for it to totally steer away from the books going forward. The remainder of this season not so much as it all centers on the end of the best book in the series, A Storm Of Swords. In my opinion, the next two books drops in quality, so if they wish to keep up the excellent series, they need to change it up a little. I think the have already started to do that.
