GAA 2026

The population shift to a narrow strip along the East Coast is so stark now. Just last week I saw news of a couple of thousand new houses planned between Newry and Banbridge due to the attraction of Dublin being easy hitting distance. Having travelled West last week to Roscommon, it was sad to see once thriving little villages pock marked with boarded up shops and bars.

It’s really sad, rural Ireland is sadly declining, some towns worse than others.

Problem is players in these towns and townlands, clubs are merging at underage to field teams.

In Dublin it’s almost impossible to set up a new a new club, your talking close to 10 mill the price of land for a playing field and facilities in Dublin, I know one club in South Dublin quoted more - it’s impossible.

You get kids then sucked into the Super Clubs, I was up at Ballyboden recently and close to 4000 underage kids pass through the doors either training or playing over a weekend. The participation is great, but you can see how that number get lost to the game playing fir the one club - how do ever you make Senior with the lads you played growing up.

County board have bought two sites on the North and South side and are going to build clusters of pitches for clubs either side of the Liffey, hopefully that helps the clubs or new clubs to set up as the City expands.

The County team them selves despite all their success in recent years doesn’t even have a centre of excellence - it’s to expensive.

There are kids leaving those big clubs in droves by the age of 12. Most will be lost to Rugby or Football or completely lost to sport. They're (imho) detrimental to the game in Dublin. I know of one former All Ireland winner with Dublin who has moved his kids out of the club he still plays for to a smaller club.

The allocation of publicily owned playing facilities in South Dublin is pretty shocking. My own club has sent a FOI request to the council to see how it is being allocated. We've heard nothing back yet.

I think the future will see a number of amalgamations of smaller clubs in Dublin. Our own club has a few of our teams from around U14 up to Minors merged with another and sometimes 2 other clubs in order to keep players playing up until they can feed into the respective clubs adult teams.

Bit or relief for clubs in the Southside.

Hopefully Hollystown follows.

I won’t even post the Armagh team, it’s a dud.

Really looking forward to the trip to HQ tomorrow, 2 great games. I fancy Leinster 1-1 Ulster by the close of play.

Ger's been fairly reliable to the team naked as the crow flies mate.

Two good games actually have someone close involved with Meath this year so have more then a passing interest.

Armagh need to beat us or Kerry - if we get anything tonight wel be alright i think.

Bit of jeopardy on the table for both teams should be good! Best of luck to both teams.

Safe journey mate and anyone else traveling, be a good weekend in the City with the Scots also in town. ;)

I hope he sticks with Hugh O'Sullivan for the championship, he's a better keeper than Comerford. Any word on Con?

Noting unofficial bar what's been said about his hamstring, doubt they will take any risks with him a month out from the satrt of the Cahmpionship.

I see Cormac in back on the bench.

Agree on Hugh O'Sullivan, Evens had a good run at nailing down no 1 shirt and just hasnt and still looks like he can be rattled. Hugh has been steady since coming in.

Congrats to the Armagh lads, some result to pull off in the City and great come back.

Dublin absolutely melted down in the last 20 mins after putting up a great shift until then, one of the worst 20 mins I’ve seen us post since the started earwigs. Midfield disintegrated and kick outs were melt downs. Armagh lads walking by the likes of POCB - not good enough for Dublin senior footballers. Criminal posting that score and not winning.

Taking nothing away from Armagh, won it fair and square - enjoy the night lads! ;)

Agree with all this. Dubs even given an extra man and a free at the start of the second half.
