Mykolenko and Patterson are as good as Baines and Coleman, they are just still developing…..

You need to factor in that all this year we have.

1. Changed Manager
2. Changed formation
3. Changed both fullbacks
4. Changed both CBs
5. Bought a whole new Midfield
6. Lost our talisman Star Striker to injury
7. Sold Richarlison

We look a lot more solid at the back, we dont lose every midfield battle, it will take time for them to work out the attacking side, but its defo a work in progress.

They're well off. My opinion of Baines as a feller is low, but he's head and shoulders above Mykolenko. His defending wasnt as good as Mykolenko's, but his attacking game was miles better. And Coleman after he came back from Blackpool was a much better balanced player in terms of defence-attack than Patterson's is right now.

Having seen them both as young players, I disagree. We have two decent full backs. Baines struck up good relationships on the left and Coleman was at one point great on the right. But then Coleman started to play more backward passes than forward, and Baines lost his left wing get out. Give these two lads a chance and they will do us proud……

He's pulled a Moyes, in less time....so far anyhow, need to see this keep up for a whole season.

Perfect logic and and agree with all of it!

Patterson to me looks potentially better than Coleman.. Coleman has done us proud but had his faults.. crossing being one. Had a good period where he scored a bit.. overall we fitted each other well. Patterson looks like he at least can do what Coleman could..potentially more

Baines was one of the best LBs in Europe for years.. Myko has a long way to go to even compete. Digne was as good offensively as Baines but maybe selling him with some good years left was a blessing. Not letting him hang on as he would start to decline in the next couple years has allowed us to keep that position fresh.

We have been trying to replace Coleman for years … which has a little damaged our memory of Coleman.. it’s got harder and harder for him to be at the level we need.
