As a Lampard skeptic, I have to say that his press conferences are genuinely illuminating. He doesn't go in for the smoke and mirrors stuff that, perhaps, the more seasoned operators that have preceded him indulged in, but that allows him to make a connection with ordinary fans. He is more transparent and people can make their own minds up based on what they have heard. With Ancelotti and Benitez, the ordinary fan knew that very little of insight was ever going to be conveyed. Those wily old foxes saw the press conference as something to be cloaked in, if not disinformation, impenetrable code. Frank, perhaps naively, provides insight and conveys his feelings. As a fan, that's a very human quality. His inexperience makes him more likeable and relatable.
If he can get us over the line tonight - or at least at some point this month - he will have an awful lot of goodwill and, for the first time, some genuine credibility. A win tonight is a giddy thought. Here's hoping.
