Early days, but if I'm seeing this right Frank has worked out something very important to this current squad's success.

He doesn't have enough quality in positions across the board to simply select the best team and formation and build from there. That would not get him much further than previous managers.

He's making use of what he's got relative to the opposition - he's stretching if further than it would normally otherwise be done.
Ie he got it right matching up Gomes against Brentford and the same for Iwobi against Leeds. He also got the subs right in both these matches.
Newcastle was a different story for obvious reasons.

He's a clever man.
He's also lucky. The one type of player he needs is a player like Donnie to help pivot and rotate the squad, I think Donnie can adapt to almost anything Frank can throws at him. Donnie's come just at the right time for him

I also think he knows this job is vital to keep him being thought about as a credible manager in the top flight. That will spur him on.

TBH if he gets us top half next season I can see him being a target for other clubs and we may lose him after he's steadied this ship.

That's football.

That is a problem especially if it is Chelsea knocking to take him back again.

I hope he really settles here, establishes a TEAM, and takes us as a road to being at the top.

I hope we can get over this FFP pooh and give him the support he needs.

Got to remind myself which players are out at end of this season. Will that give a great help on the payroll bill ? Or what players will he want to retain ?

No, he's a good fit, someone with something to prove, players should be able to connect to him, 2nd best English midfielder of his generation (behind Scholes of course)
I am very impressed at how he has quickly absorbed what this Club and it's tradition mean.

Tbh I was very wary of a cockney taking over this Club, but Frank has really won me over.

So would I. My comment was a tad tongue in cheek. I actually kinda agree with @davek here - the players always talk up the new manager. Why wouldn't you? Either because they are so fickle they're impressed at the minute (or still motivated), are happy to deflect and pass the blame for their own failings, or are just an arse kisser. Or maybe it's a genuine insight into what was going wrong. Probably elements of all of the above.

I think only time will tell, I'm still very wary about a lot of this squad.

100% mate.

Early days obviously, but let’s hope this is the start of something we can get behind and enjoy. Watching Hassenhuttl last night on MOTD, how close was he to getting the axe last season, especially after those cricket score defeats? But the Southampton board kept their nerve and they now look a completely different team. We’ll do well to get something there next week.
Getting a result would be nice but performance is key too. We have been poor away from home.

It was like going back 30 years……well done Frank…..
The Ferguson header against united in 95 and again 10 years later against them.unbelievable atmospheres. We shouldn’t underestimate the effect we have on the team. But the team have got to lead the way and we will respond. Lampard spoke openly as a player about goodison being one of the best atmospheres to play in. It’s ironic he’s now managing there.

If things are going well here why would he want to leave.

17 points of 6th, Frank can see a European tour is still on. ?
If we managed that, it would be a miracle. But shows if we can at least get ourselves to a respectable position. Something to build on for next season. I feel Richarlison and DCL are going this summer. Maybe we can at least help them to reconsider.

Christ that was some header the roof came off the ground momentarily that day.
