Great stuff. The Classic mode is a great addition.

I've not played it for years because it took about a month to install - even when you had the actual game you'd need to install via some third party bollocks (stream?) and it took another month to get out of pre-season and an actual week to get through each gaming week

Never had a problem with him.

DM - Anchor Man (Defend)
CM - Ball Winning Midfielder / Deep-Lying Playmaker / Central Midfielder on Automatic - all work for him.

He's one of the best CM/DM's and Baines is one of the best LB's.

Tried everything with him and nothing gets close to his best for me. He's still my best DM so I keep him there as it suits my formation, but it does feel like I'm wasting his talents.

Baines is immense though. He racks up assists for fun -- with genuine Baines style pinpoint crosses -- and scores the odd ace free kick too.

As an Anchor Man/Ball Winning Midfielder he's not exactly gonna set the world alight, but does a brilliant job tackling and everything (Gibson-esque?), check his stats and compare them to other DM's.
Game goes to sh*t when I sub him, usually. Well because my other DM for a lot of time was Captain Pointyfinger. Heitinga is also not so bad in there.

Could use a simpler version, i'm crap at the current one. Can't get the best out of Fellaini, he seems happiest as anchor man but that makes my formation rubbish. Anyway, a new version would be nice.

Play him as ball winning midfielder (defend) in a 442 or 4231. He is great for me - make sure yoy get him in the box for set pieces too

I played him as a ball winning midfielder sitting next to Rodwell and Rodwell always outshone him

Love it, I won't be playing this classic mode but I can defo se why some would want this.

I wasn't going to get the new one but I will now after the changes we've made to our squad in the summer and the whole Rangers debacle intrigues me.

Anyone remember Championship Manager 97/98? Also Season 01/02? Probably had the best interfaces ever. They were fun to play and kept you gripped with really basic, if you look at it, detailing. But thats what it was all about.

Personally, I found the smaller text and screens, along with the match highlights in the later versions and in Football Manager, not really to my liking. All I remember was when it was just the possession bar going left to right, fun times indeed!

I hope they go back to something like this.

Premier manager on the Amiga was boss. That's how a footy manager game should be.

Also Football Masters for the die hard Amiga footy management gamers. That was boss mc boss.

PM was good. Anco's Player Manager was ace too, but neither is CM2.

Love it, so many little satisfying stories in my head from it.

Main gripe is the media ask you the same questions over and over and over, so tedious.

+1

They were awesome, both updates on CM3 weren't they? For me the most 'fun' and addictive version of the game. Spent hours playing it at Uni, did about 30 seasons in one game! :) :)

Yeah, both updates on that game engine. Likewise, many a night was spent lost in those two versions, until I actually looked out the window and found that night had become day!

This was the best CM/FM in my opinion, enjoyed that match engine the most, just a box for a goal was better than the netting they introduced, as you could still see the ball. Wont ever forget Supat Rungratsamee, a 16 year old thai kid from Pompey, who you could get in league one and he'd score for fun with his 20 finishing stat.

Oskarsson and Braaten also getting mentions.

Ignore the retard who does the commentary.
