Football Is Dead

There was a directive this season any ball hitting an arm in the box was a penalty, intention had nothing to do with it.

Now I don't agree with that, but that was the directive so look at the state of that decision today, apparently the angle that showed a clear arm ball was not available to VAR only Sky Redmen TV had it.
Yeah its a ridiculous rule.
In the Oranje v Krauts euro qualifier the ball bounced behind De Ligt, over his head and onto his arm. He had started turning around to face the play again.
At no point did he have a clue where the ball was. Penalty. That a moment like this can determine a match is farce.
And so this can be given, but not today's one - pure farce it is.

All boils down to interpretation.

In which case, you’ll have Spurs fans clamouring for the Son penalty shout and you’ve got blues screaming for the Alli handball even though not one single person was calling for it in real time.

Rather than sit here feeling hard done by and crying corruption, which is nonsense and every sane, rational human being knows its nonsense, It’s better and more productive to focus on the performance, which was not good enough.

Good result. Poor performance.

Hopefully Gomes is okay and we move on to Southampton next weekend. COYB

That's not clarification - it's a pathetic attempt at justification.

Even if we take that on face value, Keane's penalty giveaway was not a "clear and obvious" penalty. Hardly any of the decisions given are. They are determined by slow motion replay, not real time.

There's no consistency. If we are going to have 'clear and obvious', then VAR isn't the answer for this - it's a second referee watching solely for incidents in the penalty box, so that the first official doesn't miss anything 'clear and obvious'.

VAR should be for offsides, nothing else, as it isn't suited to anything else.

Literally said 3 of them in this thread.

No I haven’t. Making things up again I see!

I’ve said the Son shout was a close call and Mina was clumsy. Which many others said in the match thread.

I said to give a pen for the “handball” would’ve been soft and there wasn’t a single claim made for it by fan, management or player.

And I said that Brighton players did claim for a pen last week.

Atkinson is the worst premier league ref by a distance, and he’s been the worst for as long as I can remember.

we should have had two penalties today. If Richarlison wasn’t such a well known diver we might’ve got a pen When he was tripped. The handball one was stonewall.

VAR should only be used for offside decisions. It has worked for offside bar a couple of dodgy ones this year. It has turned football into a non-contact sport as even the slightest brush of contact in the box is deemed enough for a penalty. Let ref and linesmen make penalty decisions on their own. I don’t care if they get 20% of them wrong, its better than the farce we have now.

as for silva, i‘m for leaving him at the Helm. For a start, who the hell do we get in? we‘ve recruited really badly, and brands needs some blame for this. We have Midfield players who look robotic with no pace or with the nouse to play a decent through ball. We need a striker who can actually finish.

we‘re going to end up looking like Watford or West Ham if we keep sacking managers. It hasn’t done them any good has it? I still think our luck will turn and with a couple of creative midfielders and a striker we’ll be no-where near the bottom. silva needs another window.

we need patience at this time. football, and especially Everton, isn’t a quick fix.

“I thought it would’ve been soft” means you think it wasn’t a pen. You can play the semantics game as much as you want as usual, but that’s what you meant. You have also said numerous times over the past week that the Brighton penalty was a pen, so we know what you meant by that as well.

I get more 'involved' in my lad's saturday league games. I spend most of the time watching Everton giggling in an ironic way because we've been getting shafted for as long as I can remember. From Clive Thomas, Hansen's handball, Collina to today's run of the mill bollix.
It hasn't been a sport for years. It's fixed. Riddled with corruption and is becoming the Running Man with a ball, all about bets and forecasts, but rigged.

This 100%, my lad plays in under 9’s and I get much more enjoyment watching them play.
