I don't understand the Big Dunc situation really
If he's been appointed Caretaker it means either
1) he doesn't want the job permanently. If so, why not? Has he not got the guts to do it, or he feels comfortable as no.2? Most of the time assistants at least try to have a go at managing, but there are some who are lifelong assistants, but they tend to be good coaches, like the type Sir Alex used to hire for instance.
2) They don't rate him on the board. If that's the case, how can he for 7-8 years hold no responsibility in any failings that have happened? And if he's been the shining light in each failed managerial appointment, why is he not worth a try
When he has been caretaker last time and this week, his talk is of passion, aggression, fight etc, and with the crowd he seems to really get the players going. They interview well about him too. So as an assistant, can he never get that passion and fight accross? In all his years, he's never been able to influence the players to fight and play for the shirt?
His years of experience as an assistant are at least worth the 1 year of Lampard and Rooney's careers in management, so I wouldn't see any difference between those 3 appointments in experience alone, but definitely Lampard & Rooney have played under better managers and obviously have successful careers.
So in short, I would go for him, but only if Mr Moshiri is prepared to give him 2 full seasons. Barring any ridiculous failures or anything dodgy, I would like to see our managers given more time again, even if it means a few years of yo-yo-ing up and down the league table until we stabilise.
It goes back to the structure, mentality, board and Finch Farm. Even Ferguson, Rooney or Lampard should be successful if the system in place is solid and innovativ.e
