I cycle AND I drive (although not at the same time). :)

As a result I am not a fat-arsed unfit pillock who thinks cyclists should be banned from roads.

Did you damage the lad's bike? If so I hope you paid for it - or maybe you didn't check.

When they say they are 'ok' - they are usually in a state of shock.

**** the driver's conscience. I know a lot who drive drunk/stoned. Sure, they might kill someone and they will feel really sorry. Well, boo-hoo-hoo.

Of course, blame the victim...

It's so easy to spot the ill-educated and unhealthy on the old www. :)

Roads are for cars mate.

This is what you need and we'd all get along.

I hate it when cyclists go thro red lights, 99% of them do it, so knocking him off his bike is just karma catching up on the light jumping [Poor language removed]

FIXED

I bet when they ride in doubles beside each other and won't pull into single file when you are driving behind them doesn't p**s you in the slighest.

But no worries, man - the guy seems to be alright and you said it was not your fault. Give the hospital a bell and ask after him if it plays on your mind too much.

the cops said it was "driver error" ..........................erm, hold on a sec

Momentary lapse of judgement, in truth it was a poor manoeuvre by me. However he was proper hurtling on the inside of traffic, you don't tend to look immediately for anything undertaking cars inside of you. If it had been a less hurried manoeuvre I would have seen him as it was he came from somewhere I wasn't expecting, if I hadn't reacted as quickly he would have hit at a lot higher speed and gone hurtling.

First bit of sense in this thread.

Most of the time the cyclist is being a ****. But the driver will always get the blame. Cyclists are nothing but an added hazard. Until they bring in tests and licences we will continue to get [Poor language removed] cyclists who dont know what they are doing.

Just what we need... more health & safety.
Yep lets have tests for everything. Cos humans need to be regulated as they can't look after themselves without tests allowances & licences from the powers that be. Well some can't, but I ****ing well can.

Let's just be clear, I know I made a mistake and I stopped the car, called an ambulance and spoke with the police - who said it was a simple split second error (I reckon they had some sympathy because of the situation). I was moving across from an outside lane so could not see the cyclist in my side mirrors until I had started the manoeuvre and by the time I spotted him (under taking the traffic) and took evasive action, the cyclist could no longer avoid me (because of the speed HE was travelling at) and he essentially rear ended me. I was breathalysed as routine and was 'clear' (no surprise as I had been in work all day and hadn't had a drink in days). The police have no intention of taking any action against me and I have tried to call the cyclist to apologise. I am not looking to off load blame and accept I caused the collision although if it had been any other kind of vehicle that rear ended me, they would be the ones at fault due to the fact they were undertaking traffic. Also I was moving across to turn into a junction, so this guy was undertaking traffic in front of a junction, which is hardly safe cycling!
