I remember the same when Chelsea sacked AVB, Abramovitch desperately did not want to sack him but was left with no choice and he publicly bollocked the players in no uncertain terms.

If reports are true that Moshiri really did not want Silva to fail then maybe he felt the need to give the players a piece of his mind prior to the public announcement?
