Everton's top scorers since 2000, putting Lukaku's performance in proper context

I think there is some frustration as he's capable of getting 30 goals a season.

I think he certainly wasn't trying or showing enough but he said he's had niggling injuries off and on all season.

Will give him the benefit of the doubt. But someone like him can do so much more.

I think this is the point.

And I've not once argued that he can't do better, of course he can. He can try harder too.

But to brand him "a waste of money" when he's our first 20 goals a season striker for 8 years is ridiculous.

I don't get why people are trying to play down his goal scoring record this season. He's scores 20 goals spread across 3 competitions. If it wasn't for his Europa goals we wouldn't have progressed half as far as we did and it was the best part of the season.

Me neither.

Being ace in Europe doesn't mean he wasn't poor in the league, but simultaneously being poor in the league doesn't mean he's been poor full stop. People just twist things to suit their points of view.

I love Rom, but I'll be the first to say he should have more than 10 league goals. Though given his age, the role we give him in the team (i.e. back to goal -- not his strength) and the rubbish service/support he's had, I also think it's understandable how he's not excelled.

I think he's also suffered from Mirallas being injured a lot and Ross being rubbish all season; they are the two players he links up with best. All in all though, if this is what he's doing during a bad season, then it goes to show how good he is and how he can become world class. If we can sign a playmaker and maybe try and play to his strengths a bit more, (as to be fair, we have done more in the 2nd half of the season) then I think he can have a good league campaign next season.

Leonardo Ulloa (Leicester) , Diafra Sakho (West Ham), Danny Ings (Burnley), Christian Benteke (Aston Villa), Papiss Cisse (Newcastle), Charlie Austin (QPR) have all scored the same or more than Lukaku this season in the PL.

With obviously worse players than Barkley, Mirallas, Baines, Lennon, Osman and Coleman supplying them.
You're just a contrarian.

Imagine how many goals he could score if we just played to his strengths
When ever he has a pass on the ground in front of him we look like something can happen instead of a hopeful punt up in the air as a lone striker with the midfield strolling up at a snails pace

Excellent points mate. I strongly agree with the part in bold - when the three of them are singing from the same sheet, beautiful things happen. Too often this year however, Ross has had a poor game, or Mirallas has been left on the bench.

Also if it wasn't for the Europa i am sure we would of played better in the league so chances are he might of picked up a few more league goals due to the better form of himself and the squad behind him. We also went out of the league cup right away, a competition Roberto might of taken serious if he didn't have the distraction of Europe, so the potentional for a few games against lower league teams might of seen him net a few.
He scored 20 goals playing for Everton against professional sides, 20 goals is 20 goals, simple as.
