The problem with that is, they are relying on the domestic league to make Super League work. It simply wouldn't/couldn't work without the domestic comps. They would have like 20 games per year and it would get old quick.

They need to league more than the league needs them. They need to realise that and call their bluff. The league hold the power but its like an abusive relationship.
Unfortunately we need each other. ESL was based on a domestic league continuing, but the money would have rapidly moved and flowed to ESL.

Unfortunately for the PL to remain globally attractive and financially dominant, those teams have to be in it.

They will probably get a small points deduction, say 3-6 points, certainty no more than 10 because harming those clubs damages the whole product.

I’m sure they will also be required to commit to some sort of binding agreement regarding ESL and not damaging the PL.

That's what "they" want everyone to think. Look how many new Leicester fans there were after they won the league. Look how many New Man City and Chelsea fans there fan been since 2005. Even promoted teams like Leeds get a boost in casual fans just by being in this league. The teams that are relegated, demoted, or even start doing poorly, they maintain their core following, but the fairweather fans lose interest fast. Dissolving the teams entirely may cause a problem. But demoting them out of the league? They are each big enough that they would maintain a core fan base that would still be enormous compared to the majority of clubs, and would probably even keep a large proportion of casual fans.

In addition to that, they would in turn draw eyes on whichever lower league they end up in, and with it, would probably bring lots of publicity to the competition, especially when they had to play each other.

In the meantime, I honestly don't think it would affect PL viewing figures as much as u think. The majority of football that fans watch will be teams they don't support anyway, and it would add an intrigue to the league that has been missing for decades.

I have no doubt the 6 teams would be back at the earliest opportunity, but it's the potential for them to fail which would make it exciting.

It's all moot anyway, as it won't happen.

Spurs are in financial trouble. They have taken on the deb5 of a stadium then been almost ruined by COVID.

In the current climate, I don‘t think allowing a big club to go bust will help anyone. It will hasten the creation of the ESL.

Here’s a thought.

You say that the PL needs these six clubs in order to generate the revenue it needs to meet its business plan.

Let’s say that the six eventually do leave and join an ESL. What would then prevent clubs like Everton, Leicester, Villa and Leeds becoming the new PL big boys and attracting big-name players? These clubs would probably be the ones representing The PL in the Champions League and so they would grow commercially and in influence as these clubs would provide representation on the various European football committees.

The king is dead...Long live the king

Neither the PL or the CL would have the cudos. The money would follow Madrid, Barca and the others in the ESL.

Liverpool, Man U, Arsenal and Chelsea have enormous international support. Love it or loathe it, for foreign fans they bring the glamour. Spurs apart, they are the perennial trophy winners.

What is left would struggle on on greatly diminished tv revenues.

not if the big clubs are risking going bust like the first one. Rangers have recovered, so will spuds if they go bust. This is an opportunity for a great reset. Anything else will mean the demise of football as we know it at some point in time in the not too distant future.

I think legislation is required, not ruination.

it would cope, players wages are obscene, there is no need for them to be that high. If the Sly six are booted out, other team will replace them, great football matches don't have to include the Sly six, in fact, many matches involving them are terrible spectacles and conversely great games can happen between non sly six sides.

Okay, but given that we know that Fifa would not allow ESL players to represent their countries, would this not spark an exodus of the finest players away from these so called elite clubs?

Also, personally I think that the same teams playing each other week in/week out with no relegation would result very quickly in a complete borefest.

The paying public are a fickle bunch. As a neutral you want drama, excitement, thrills and spills. This Super league will only serve up a dull, corporate, processed product so far removed from the concept of competitive football that the paying neutrals will soon drift away.

We’ve seen ourselves this season with the signing of James, just how much interest in our club has been generated in South America and that’s just one player.

So I don’t buy this whole global big club thang. Man Utd and Real Madrid’s global rep could fall rapidly if they participate in a closed, sterile Super League.

That's a good point too. I think the worry the PL have is that if they, say , ban them from the PL for 1 year, or UEFA ban them from Europe for 1 year, or they all get docked 10 points each...it'll damage those clubs, and they are favourites of UEFA and PL. Obviously it's not just the clubs they like, they probably all know the CEOs and board members and managers and they'll face a lot of pressure as well. But it just seems incredible that we are supposed to 'Chill out' as Klopp says..

Tuchel has some neck
Talk about an arse licking, brown nosed snake
He does not like the new CL format
No one consulted the players ,no one consulted the coaches .
Too many matches ,not enough rest
Did not say this about the ESL ,just toed the company line
Rapidly going off the man as a human being

The FA would revoke thier license so they no longer be able to play and the money they make from the SL int enough to keep them major attractions without the PL and CL money.
