Everton's loan haven is attracting other clubs, says Roberto Martínez

we've been reduced to openly touting for other clubs players to develop them. feeding off scraps from the big boys table, because, lets face it, we will never be able to afford our own.
Leg it and go support City then, moron.

it's obviously not a sustainable thing

it might work really well one year, like this year, but then completely fail the next, or the loans simply arent there

u would hope if we have a decent finish this seasozn that would turn into money to actually buy some players?

what im saying is if none of barry lukaku or delofeu came back next year and we didnt make any new signings but got 3 loan players in to replace them... of course that would be a bit disappointing, im not crazy for thinking that am i?

i dont know, it would just be nice bein able to get a players name on the shirt for my kid knowin that the player will be there next year. spose its not that big a deal if we keep playin like we are, i just think theres a certain element of chance in it that im not to fond of

I think the economics make sense. It's really like renting instead of buying a house. If we had bought Lukaku and Del and Barry, it would have cost something like $60M, which we don't have. Even on 4-year installments, that transfer splurge would cost all the TV money in one fell swoop. This way, we don't gain if they become more valuable (two certainly will), but we also don't lose if they become less (Barry's value will likely drop in coming years), and don't have to shell out the big bucks. Few here would argue that we're one big bust away from being solidly mid-table for half a decade.

People here can debate whether we should get players on loan, but the fact is there's nothing bad about other teams wanting to loan us their best young players, seeing as we trust the manager to pick ones who can help us win games, and ones that can possibly become permanent transfers. I, for one, trust the smoky-eyed Spaniard to make these decisions.

My missus watched the press conference the other day and said he had 'crazy-eyes'.

Don't get too mislead, Bobby's all about stability and loaning each year to enhance the first eleven would not cross his mind. That's why he never pumps the ball in the box even in the last minute, he's got OCD with this ****.

It's also a good signal to young players who are looking for permanent moves. In a couple years there will probably be quite a few youngsters from clubs like Man City, Chelsea, Real Madrid, etc. on the last year or so of their contracts looking to move to a club that will value them.

First things first...I personaly don't count Barry as a loan simply because his contract is up and I've no doubt the deal will be made perminent come summer. So in my mind RM has taken 2 loan deals this season. Delefoe has strengthened the squad and gave us a future world class player on the bench. Lakaku has been the type of striker we could never afford. We have a solid base of players who "get" Everton and are also very good players. As long as were still buying our own and complementing with loan signings it's a perfectly sub stainable model.

Where it goes wrong is if you rely purely on the loan deals. A perfect example being Watford who have dropped faster than bird poo this season!

would it's viscosity make a difference, or did Gallileo fling it from a leaning tower somewhere in Italy?

Our loan signings have allowed us to compete so far, without our young stars, would we still be in for a chance for a CL place? these kids are game changers and it had annoyed our rivals such as Spurs, Liverpool as we now can compete with them. This is a model we should exploit, its no good signing a good winger if we can get a kid who tipped to be the best, they can win the game alone for us, look at the Arsenal goal, that was pure skill. This is a model we should stick to for the next couple of years, higher positions and winning cups, getting into Europe will allow us to buy our own stars.

This. FIFA really should limit the amount of players above a certain age that a club can have on its books. As it stands now, RM or City can sign 20 boss midfielders to huge contracts. The players are happy because they are getting paid, and those that can't get on the field know they can go play elsewhere on loan.

Don't expect FIFA to do what's right for the game. UEFA has lobbied for an end to third party ownership of players. Guess what? FIFA is about to rule it's allowable as many clubs in South America have a business model that means selling off rights to players. The rich clubs can always circumvent the rules, the best EFC can do is be as efficient as possible to try and compete, even if that means shelling out £7-8m a year in loan fees (still cheaper than what we shell out in interest payments!)

To all the people who accuse me of negativity yes I apologise. After all Bill has more or less turned us into Wigan so The comments made by Martinez are accurate.

Bring back John Moores ffs

I have no problem with loan players. We have very little money, the only way we can earn more money to compete is by qualifying for the champions league on a regular basis, once we qualify the first time we can spend some money to help us qualify again. until then the only way we will be able to compete in the league for a top four finish is to loan quality players we cant afford to get us where we need to be. If people cant see this, they are the ones with no ambition for Everton.

Are you sure you want to support Everton? There are plenty other clubs out there that elite clubs don't want to send their best and brightest to. They don't have the pick of the world's best 'wonderkids'.

Some people seem to think loans are fine so long as its with terrible players who can come off the bench? What's with this attitude- as far as I can tell, elite clubs in Europe don't see us as a threat (obviously, we don't ever competitively engage) yet see us as a healthy environment to send their TOP assets?
You simply can not get higher praise about the state of Everton Football Club-
what it means is:

1) the football and coaching is of a level that Barca/Real/Bayern approve of
2) the environment is perceived to be one in which a continental non-english player can integrate happily and easily
3) Everton is being fought over- there are DIRECT links of communication CURRENTLY happening between EFC and the biggest clubs in the world.

This season we signed 3 loanees (1 who will not be returning to his parent club at the end of the season) and signed 4 players permanently- nowhere in Martinez's statement did he imply that we would be EXCLUSIVELY doing loans. I am fully confident that he will improve the squad at every opportunity with permanent contracted players, and then complement the squad HUGELY with the best available loan players from the best clubs in the world.

Anyone that is crying about 'loan mentalities' must get a grip and smile- Our club is in a wonderful position!

A balance needs to be striked obviously- but its not all bad.
Other than Watford (which is different because its not 'pure' scouted loans- the owner owns other clubs who sends players over) the major 'Loan' Club I can think of is Vitesse Arnhem who have half of Chelsea's juniors (as well as our Junior)...

> Sam Hutchinson (on loan from Chelsea)
> Francisco Júnior (on loan from Everton)
> Cristián Cuevas (on loan from Chelsea)
> Lucas Piazón (on loan from Chelsea)
> Christian Atsu (on loan from Chelsea)
> Gaël Kakuta (on loan from Chelsea)
> Patrick van Aanholt (on loan from Chelsea)

Currently...

1 Vitesse 36
2 Ajax 34
3 Twente 33
4 Feyenoord 30
5 Heerenveen 26

I think I'd live with that...

I really cannot stress how significant it is that we are forming relationships with these powerhouse clubs. Like with our relationship with Man UTD where we got Gibson and Saha cheaply, we too will possibly have the opportunity to use our links to pick up players that we normally wouldnt get.
