Everton's loan haven is attracting other clubs, says Roberto Martínez

Ooohh just had a thought! Martinez said that clubs might spend £20m on a player who wasn't ready for their team. He could have been talking about Alcantara who went from Barca to Bayern for £21.6m and who has only made 4 starts so far this year.

How mad would Moysie be if we managed to get on loan a player that he couldn't sign for United?!!!!

How's this for an analogy: You get a good job but it requires your having a car. Now, you do have an old manual Toyota, but it's battery is ****ed and until you get a paycheck, you can't afford a new one. So you have to jump start the old clunker every morning which requires your finding a hill to park it on each evening. Is this a satisfactory long term solution? No. It is a pragmatic short term solution to getting in a position where you can afford a new battery.

(not saying Everton is an old clunker like)
That, or you have loads of mates willing to lend you their brand new pricy sports car because they're not using it and they know no one will drive it as well as you. If you can't afford your own Ferrari, this is the next best thing!

As far as I'm concerned its all about manipulating the system and Martinez played a blinder. Most players ain't got any loyalty anyway so to get them on loan for a year or two will do me thank you very much. Even of we did qualify the CL or Europa this season I would expect Martinez to go and do it again next season regardless if we earned enough money to sign a top player. If its to our advantage ( and it currently is ) its best to take advantage of it.

I prefer to think of it as getting a new girlfriend every year instead of getting married.

As Martinez says we're bringing in players who would each cost £20m+. Moyes always bemoaned our lack of quality in the final third and the lack of funds to address the issue.

Maybe by using the loan market in the short term we can get the type of results that we couldn't get by buying players. In turn this closes the gap on the top 4 and gives us the potential opportunity to earn CL money and raise our profile. This means that we could afford and attract a better quality of player on a permanent basis. If we're then able to progress in the CL we could start getting to the stage where we might be able to sign someone like Lukaku or Deulofeu outright.

It's a much more sensible approach than speculating tens of millions of pounds trying to crack the top 4, even if we did have the funds.

As has been said, short term using loans to ass quality and/or depth to your squad is fine. Its worked well for us in the past and is doing so right now.

But they should only be used on a try before you buy type scenario (as Moyes did well), short term first 11 fixes (as Martinez did in thr summer with Barry and Lukaku) or adding depth to a small squad.

But loans should never be a long term solution to actually buying players outright, and i think its perfectly valid point to worry that if Martinez can make full use of the loan system to keep us in the same position that Moyes did then the board will have even less of a reason to actually try and find the money to let him buy players as well as loan them, therefor meaning we continue to bang our heads on the top 4 glass ceiling.

I've no problem if we can bring in 1 or 2 talented youngsters from top clubs a year to supplement our squad. I do have a problem if each year 2 or 3 of our best most important players are loans, as they are now.

Well clearly Martinez is a victim of his own success, more fool everybody else, clearly Barry, Lukaku and Defus were offered to other Clubs, more fool for them for not taking them.

As somebody else pointed out, at least we didnt loan Victor Moses.

LOL

Exactly.

I can't make sense of this - surely if the players we bring in on loan are performing brilliantly, then that's exactly what you want? Otherwise, why would you loan them?

Let's put it this way - you've just said bringing in 1 or 2 talented youngsters is desirable - but what stops them ALSO being our best, most important players? Or are we supposed to just loan gash for the sake of squad bulking?

Barry is basically signed unless we choose not to take the option, so that's an example of a loan leading to a permanent. Lukaku and Deulofeu are exactly the same as Moses and Cissokho. We signed a permanent player in McCarthy for £13m and we have money left over. I don't see what the problem is here.

LOL

Except Bobby would have him playing like Ryan Giggs circa '98
